  • Unfinished Canadian-Made Furniture: A Budget-Friendly Option for Everyone

Unfinished Caledonia coffee table When it comes to furnishing your home, quality and affordability don’t always go hand-in-hand. However, for savvy shoppers and DIY enthusiasts, unfinished Canadian-made furniture  is becoming an increasingly popular option — and for good reason. It offers the charm of customization, the assurance of quality craftsmanship, and, best of all, significant savings. What Is Unfinished Furniture? Unfinished furniture refers to solid wood pieces that haven’t yet been stained, painted, or sealed. These pieces are typically sold “raw,” allowing the buyer to choose how the final product will look. From dining tables and bookshelves to nightstands and chairs , the options are vast. Unlike flat-pack or imported alternatives, unfinished furniture made in Canada is often constructed from durable, sustainably sourced hardwoods such as maple, wormy maple, pine, walnut, or oak. These materials provide a solid base for long-lasting, heirloom-quality furniture — but without the added cost of factory finishes or branding. Why Choose Canadian-Made? Supporting local manufacturers has a wide range of benefits. Canadian furniture makers are known for their high standards of craftsmanship and environmental responsibility. Many operate on a small to medium scale, which means you’re often getting a hand-crafted piece with attention to detail that mass-produced furniture simply can’t match. A Canadian furniture make can create a custom piece that satisfies your exact needs. Unfinished Huron nightstand Moreover, buying Canadian-made keeps your dollars in the local economy, reduces the environmental cost of shipping, and often comes with better customer service and customization options. Budget-Friendly Without Sacrificing Quality One of the biggest advantages of unfinished furniture is cost. Because you’re buying a product that hasn’t undergone the finishing process, the price is significantly lower. This gives you room in your budget to personalize the piece exactly how you want — whether that means matching an existing décor theme, experimenting with colors, or opting for a simple natural look. If you're a DIYer or enjoy weekend projects, finishing your own furniture can also be a rewarding experience. Even if you hire someone to do the finishing for you, the total cost can still be less than buying a fully finished piece of similar quality. At Cinnamon Cabin Co, we offer all furniture with an unfinished option. We're happy to provide you with the opportunity to make each piece of furniture in your home your own! Who Is It For? Quite simply: everyone. First-time homeowners looking to save, renters trying to add personality to a temporary space, or long-time homeowners wanting to invest in custom touches — all can benefit from the affordability and flexibility that unfinished Canadian furniture offers. It's also ideal for those who care about sustainability. Finishing furniture yourself gives you control over the types of products used — from eco-friendly stains to low-VOC finishes — helping reduce your environmental footprint. Unfinished Stratford Saddle Stool Final Thoughts In a world filled with fast furniture and fleeting trends, unfinished Canadian-made furniture stands out as a smart, sustainable, and budget-conscious choice. It allows you to express your creativity, invest in quality, and support local makers — all without breaking the bank. So if you're furnishing your space and looking for something affordable, lasting, and uniquely yours, consider going unfinished — and go Canadian at Cinnamon Cabin Co. ~edited by Katherine P.S. It's amazing how we are all like unfinished furniture - but God doesn't look at us as budget-friendly! He created us, and wants to make us exactly into the person He meant. To do that, He became human, lived on this earth, and offered Himself in Christ as the perfect Sacrifice for sin. When we believe on Jesus as the Son of God, and take His perfect offering as ours, God will work on us to finish us as "His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13) meant us to be!

  • Why Black Chairs Are Back: The Comeback of a Canadian-made Classic

London Mission Chair Remember when everyone was painting their furniture white or hunting for pastel everything? Well, black chairs are strutting back into the spotlight—and honestly, it’s about time. For a while, black furniture had a bit of a cold reputation. It was often associated with either ultra-modern, borderline sterile interiors or heavy, dated pieces from the early 2000s. But now? Black chairs are being reimagined in fresh, stylish ways that feel timeless, versatile, and—let’s be real—pretty cool. 1. They Go with Literally Everything One of the biggest reasons black chairs are making a comeback is their incredible flexibility. Whether your space is boho, industrial, minimalist, or even farmhouse chic, black fits in. They act like the little black dress of your dining room or office—effortless and always in style. Black doesn't clash, and it doesn’t scream for attention. It quietly complements everything around it while still adding depth and sophistication. 2. They're Low Maintenance (Bless) Let’s face it—light-colored furniture can be beautiful, but it’s also a magnet for every fingerprint, coffee spill, and random scuff mark. Black chairs are the practical friend who always shows up dressed appropriately and never complains. They're easy to clean, don't show wear as quickly, and age gracefully. If you choose black stain over lacquer, you can use a stain marker on any scuff. What more can you ask for? 3. They Bring Drama—in a Good Way Interior design trends are leaning more into bold, expressive choices lately. Black chairs, especially with unique textures or interesting silhouettes, can add just the right amount of contrast and edge to a space. They ground a room without making it feel heavy, and they instantly elevate a simple setup. Kingston Mission Chair Pair them with a natural wood table , a plush white rug, or metallic accents, and suddenly your dining room or home office has that cool, curated vibe. 4. Designers Are Into It (So, Of Course, We Are Too) Design magazines and Instagram feeds are full of stunning interiors featuring—you guessed it—black chairs. Whether it’s matte black metal frames, sleek black leather, or classic painted wood, designers are embracing the look for both its aesthetic and practical benefits. And where the pros go, the trends follow. 5. Black Stain or Lacquer for Canadian-made Chairs Black options abound for your Canadian-made, classic chair. Black stain is popular, and, as stated before, has the option of a stain marker to take care of those day-to-day scuffs and scratches that happen with use. It also keeps the unique grain of your solid wood chairs visible, and matches any table - from natural to dark walnut. Black lacquer is a beautiful option, and gives a solid black visual like paint, except way more smooth. The only drawback to lacquer is that it is solid, and as such, we don't recommend it with wormy maple. On clear maple, however? Stunning! Black chairs with dark walnut Bottom Line? Black Chairs Are a Safe Bet with Serious Style If you’re refreshing your space and want something that’s chic, versatile, and not likely to go out of style next year, black chairs are the move. They're proof that sometimes, going back to basics is actually the most modern thing you can do. So pull up a (black) chair and enjoy the return of this underrated design staple at Cinnamon Cabin Co. ~ edited by Katherine

  • Chair Choices: Matching Canadian-Made Chairs to Your Existing Table.

Masonville Mission Chairs When it comes to your dining room, your table is often the centerpiece, holding not just meals but memories. Whether it’s a family heirloom, a piece handcrafted by you or a loved one, or crafted from lumber from the family property, your table has sentimental value that deserves to be respected. But what happens when your chairs no longer match the charm and style of the table you cherish? The good news is that Canadian-made chairs , with their superior quality and craftsmanship, are the perfect way to complete your dining area. Loving Your Current Table Your dining table might be more than just furniture. It could be a family heirloom , passed down through generations, carrying with it stories of the past. Or, perhaps it was handcrafted by you or a loved one , adding a personal touch to your home. Tables made from lumber sourced from family property  carry even deeper meaning, reminding you of your roots. These tables are more than just places to eat—they hold sentimental value. That’s why when choosing chairs, it’s important to select pieces that complement the significance of the table, both in style and function. When Do You Need New Chairs? Sometimes, the time comes when you need new chairs. Old chairs , while full of history, may no longer be in their prime. Over time, even the most beloved pieces can suffer from wear and tear. Perhaps your chairs have been broken and repaired multiple times , but it’s clear they’re no longer as comfortable or durable as they once were. Or maybe the style  just isn’t cutting it anymore, and they no longer match the aesthetic of your table. When you start spending more time at the dining table—whether for meals, work, or family gatherings—the comfort of your chairs becomes more important. A uncomfortable style  can negatively impact your dining experience, which is why it’s crucial to select chairs that are both comfortable and stylish. Matching Stain – Or Is Contrast Better? One common dilemma people face when choosing new chairs is whether to match the stain  of their chairs to their existing table. While it’s common to match the color of your chairs to your table, often they don't match exactly. When that happens, it can look like you made a mistake. Not only does choosing a contrast colour keep that from happening, but sometimes contrast can actually enhance the beauty of the whole setup. Black Chairs with a Light Table : This combination creates a bold and striking contrast, making the table stand out while the chairs provide a stylish balance. Dark Brown Chairs with a Lighter Brown Table : A subtle contrast that still keeps the look warm and cohesive while adding visual interest. Darker Chairs with a Lighter Table : Generally, darker chairs tend to work better than lighter ones. They bring a grounded, solid feeling to the space, making the chairs feel more substantial without overwhelming the table. While matching chairs to your table’s stain is classic, exploring contrast can create a striking and unique look. Matching Chairs with Table Style It’s not just the stain you should consider, but also the style  of the table. The right chairs will complement the table’s design and enhance the overall look of your dining area. Sleek Modern Table with Blyth Farmhouse Shaker Chairs : If your table has a minimalist, sleek design, pairing it with classic Shaker-style chairs can add simplicity and elegance, creating a refined yet functional dining space. Solid, Heavier Table with Kingston Mission Chairs or Muskoka Ranch Chairs : For those with larger, heavier tables, mission-style or ranch chairs are a great match. They’re sturdy, practical, and their timeless design complements the strength and style of a solid dining table. Round Table with Masonville Mission Chairs : A round table can be paired beautifully with Masonville Mission Chairs , as the symmetrical lines of the chairs perfectly align with the round shape of the table, providing a harmonious and inviting look. Muskoka Ranch chair Choosing Chairs for Comfort Along with Style When choosing chairs, comfort shouldn’t be sacrificed for style, and vice versa. Here are a few design features to look for to ensure that your chairs are both comfortable and attractive: Contour Back : A chair with a contoured back offers better spinal support and promotes good posture, making it perfect for long meals or social gatherings. Deep Seat : For added comfort, deep-seated chairs allow you to relax for longer periods without feeling cramped or uncomfortable. Smooth Fit : A chair that fits smoothly with your table’s design creates a unified look while ensuring comfort. Look for ergonomic designs that provide lasting comfort without compromising the aesthetic. Why Choose Canadian-Made Chairs? At Cinnamon Cabin Co. , we offer a wide variety of Canadian-made chairs , crafted with superior quality and attention to detail. • Canadian Customer Service: Benefits of our Small Canadian Family-Run Furniture Store.

Cambridge Cookie Table When it comes to purchasing furniture, many people may initially consider larger, chain retailers. However, there’s something special about shopping at a small, family-run furniture store in Canada. Beyond offering unique, high-quality products, these businesses excel at providing personalized, friendly customer service that goes the extra mile. From building strong relationships to ensuring that each customer feels valued, family-run furniture stores stand out in the Canadian retail landscape for a number of reasons. Here are the key benefits of Canadian customer service at our small family-run furniture store: 1. Personalized Attention and Service At a small family-run furniture store, the experience often feels more personal. When you walk into the store, you’re not just another customer in a crowded showroom—you’re treated like a member of the family. The store owners and staff, often family members themselves, take the time to understand your specific needs, preferences, and budget. Instead of a one-size-fits-all sales pitch, you’ll receive tailored advice, whether it’s choosing the right dining table for your space or selecting a decor item that complements your home. Family-run businesses focus on building relationships with their customers, ensuring you leave with exactly what you need. This level of personalized attention is a hallmark of the Canadian customer service ethos, where individuals are treated with respect and care. 2. In-Depth Product Knowledge One of the major benefits of shopping at a small, family-run furniture store is the in-depth product knowledge that the staff can provide. Because family-run stores often have smaller inventories and more hands-on involvement with the products they sell, the staff tends to know the details about each piece. Whether it’s explaining the materials used in the construction of a piece of furniture, how to care for specific finishes , or offering recommendations based on your home’s style, these stores are filled with people who are passionate about what they sell. For customers looking for specialized knowledge, family-run stores are a go-to option. At Cinnamon Cabin Co, we have a certified cabinetmaker on staff to give advice on furniture options as well as custom cabinetry quotes . Custom Kitchen 3. Customization and Flexibility A key benefit of shopping at a small Canadian family-run furniture store is the level of flexibility and customization that’s often available. Unlike big-box furniture chains that typically offer limited customization options, small family-run stores often provide bespoke furniture solutions. From custom-made pieces to changes in finishes or size, these stores are more adaptable to individual customer requests. Family-run businesses are generally more open to working with customers to create a truly unique product. This flexibility is invaluable for those who want something that perfectly fits their home or personal style, as opposed to settling for pre-made, mass-produced furniture. Whether you're looking for a custom coffee table to match your living room or need a dresser built to fit a specific space, family-run furniture stores are often more willing and able to accommodate special requests. 4. Long-Term Relationships and Trust In small, family-run furniture stores, building long-term relationships with customers is a priority. The owners and staff work hard to ensure that every customer is satisfied, not just with the initial purchase but with their entire shopping experience. This creates a sense of trust and loyalty that larger, faceless corporations often struggle to achieve. If you have any issues with your purchase down the line, a family-run business is more likely to go the extra mile to resolve the situation. They care about their reputation and want to ensure customers return for future purchases. This level of customer service, where concerns are addressed promptly and courteously, can’t be replicated at large retail stores that often prioritize speed over personalized care. 5. Transparency and Integrity At Cinnamon Cabin Co , we prioritize transparency and integrity in all our dealings. From the pricing of our products to the way we handle sales, we do our best to be honest and upfront with customers. You won’t have to deal with hidden fees or misleading discounts—what you see is what you get. The small nature of Cinnamon Cabin Co means that customers can speak directly to the owners or key staff members, which creates an environment where honesty and clear communication thrive. We do have a personal stake in ensuring that our customers are happy, which results in a more transparent and trustworthy shopping experience. 6. Community Engagement Family-run businesses are usually deeply embedded in their local communities. They often support local causes, sponsor community events, and create a sense of local pride. When you shop at these stores, you’re not just supporting a business—you’re contributing to the local economy and helping sustain small, independent businesses that play an integral role in community development. This sense of community engagement enhances the overall customer service experience. By supporting a family-run furniture store, you’re helping create jobs, foster economic growth, and promote a thriving, supportive community. 7. Sustainability and Ethical Practices Small family-run furniture businesses in Canada often place a high value on sustainability and ethical practices. Many of these stores work with local artisans and use materials that are sustainably sourced. In addition, they may prioritize eco-friendly manufacturing processes and offer pieces that are built to last, reducing the need for frequent replacements. By supporting these businesses, you’re not only getting great customer service—you’re also contributing to a more sustainable and ethical furniture industry. Many customers appreciate knowing that their purchase is supporting a business that is aligned with their values. 8. The Human Touch at a Small Canadian Furniture Store Perhaps the most defining feature of Canadian customer service in small family-run furniture stores is the “human touch.” In a world of online shopping and automated customer service systems, walking into a family-run store provides a refreshing change. You can interact with the people who own and operate the store, ask questions, and get immediate feedback. This human connection creates a more enjoyable shopping experience, where customers feel heard, understood, and appreciated. Whether you're discussing furniture options with the owner, receiving product recommendations, or just enjoying a friendly chat, the level of warmth and hospitality that family-run businesses offer is something that larger corporations often lack. This personal connection not only enhances the shopping experience but also builds long-lasting relationships with customers. Here at Cinnamon Cabin Co, we want our customers to know that we care - not just about making a sale, but about the circumstances and challenges they are facing. We love to hear about our customers' families and friends, or sympathize in the uncertainties of life. We are committed to living like Jesus, and we want to share the same love and compassion He does! Conclusion The benefits of Canadian customer service at a small family-run furniture store are undeniable. From the personalized attention and expertise of the staff to the flexibility, transparency, and after-sales support, these businesses provide an experience that big-box retailers can’t match. When you choose to shop at a small family-run store, you’re supporting not just the owners but also the community, ethical practices, and a more sustainable approach to furniture shopping . By prioritizing quality, care, and customer satisfaction, small family-run furniture stores continue to be a beloved part of the Canadian retail landscape. So, the next time you’re in the market for furniture, consider visiting Cinnamon Cabin Co for an experience that’s as meaningful as the pieces you’re buying. ~ Katherine

  • Solid Wood Furniture Made in Ontario: Affordable Quality Without a Sale Discount.

When it comes to furniture, we all want that perfect balance of quality, durability, and affordability, right? Well, if you're someone who's tired of waiting for the next big sale to snag a deal, you're in for a treat. Let’s talk about solid wood furniture made right here in Ontario—priced to be affordable without  having to wait for a markdown. Why Choose Solid Wood Furniture? First off, let’s chat about what makes solid wood furniture so special. Unlike particleboard or MDF (medium-density fiberboard), solid wood is exactly what it sounds like: wood from a tree that’s been carefully crafted into pieces that can stand the test of time. Not only is solid wood incredibly durable, but it also brings a natural charm and elegance that’s hard to beat. Each piece has its own unique grain, color, and character, making it feel like it was made just for your space. Made in Ontario Craftsmanship at Its Best When you buy solid wood furniture made in Ontario, you’re not just getting a great product—you’re supporting local artisans and businesses. Ontario is home to some seriously talented craftspeople who take pride in creating furniture that’s built to last. These pieces aren’t mass- produced in a factory—they’re thoughtfully designed and crafted with care. Plus, Ontario-made furniture often reflects the unique beauty of our landscapes, with designs that feel at home in both modern and traditional spaces. Affordability Without the Sale Discount Here’s the thing: Solid wood furniture can sometimes come with a hefty price tag, but that doesn’t mean it always has to. When you buy from Ontario makers who are committed to quality, you’re often getting a better deal than you might think. Many Ontario furniture makers focus on creating a product that’s affordable year-round, without relying on seasonal sales or deep discounts. This is because they cut out the middleman, avoiding the markups you’ll find at big-box stores. Instead of playing the waiting game for a sale, you’re getting a great deal upfront on a piece that will last for years. Why Skip the Big Chains? We get it. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the best deal is found during a sale at your local chain furniture store. But here's the kicker—those sales often come with hidden catches. Maybe you're getting a great price on a piece, but it might not last as long as you’d like, or it might not be as unique as something made by a local artisan. By buying solid wood furniture from Ontario makers, you're not only getting better craftsmanship but also better value over the long run. Think of it as an investment in your home, your comfort, and your community. The Best Part? Sustainability Solid wood furniture is also an eco-friendly choice. Unlike mass-produced, low-quality furniture that might end up in a landfill within a few years, solid wood pieces can last for generations if properly cared for. Many Ontario furniture makers also source their wood from sustainable forests, which means your purchase is not only supporting local artisans but also contributing to a healthier planet. It’s a win-win! In Conclusion: Quality, Affordability, and Local Love Next time you’re on the hunt for new furniture, consider investing in solid wood pieces made right here in Ontario. You won’t have to wait for a sale to get a great price, and you’ll be bringing home a beautiful, long-lasting product that supports local craftsmanship. Whether you're furnishing your living room, bedroom, or home office, Ontario-made solid wood furniture is the way to go for something that’s both affordable and built to last. So, why not make your next purchase a piece of Ontario craftsmanship from Cinnamon Cabin Co ? You deserve it! ~ edited by Katherine

  • Faith-Based Decor: Bring Stability to Your Space in Shifting Times.

Inspirational table block In a world that seems to be shifting beneath our feet, finding ways to ground ourselves has never been more important. For many, faith serves as the bedrock of strength and guidance. Incorporating faith-based decor into your living space can transform it into a haven that reflects your beliefs, values, and the unwavering truth of God’s presence in a world of uncertainties. Let’s explore how having inspirational pieces in your home can help center your spirit and bring peace amid chaos. The Importance of a Faithful Home There’s something comforting about stepping into a space that speaks to your heart and soul. When your home is infused with elements that showcase your Christian faith, every corner becomes a reminder of God’s love, grace, and promises. Promises like, " Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadows due to change." (James 1:17) Faith-based decor doesn’t just make your home aesthetically pleasing; it resonates on a deeper level, serving as a constant source of inspiration and motivation. As the world changes and norms shift like shadows at dusk, anchoring your home in faith can provide stability. From wall art adorned with scripture to rustic accents that remind you of life's blessings, each item tells a story of your faith journey with Jesus, uplifting anyone who enters. Inspirational Wall Art : A Reflection of Belief One of the simplest yet powerful ways to introduce faith-based decor is through wall art. Whether it’s a delicate calligraphy piece featuring your favorite Bible verse or a pallet porch leaner that declares “ The Lord will watch over you ,” each piece has the potential to transform a room. Choosing the Right Style When selecting wall art, consider the overall style of your home. Rustic designs featuring reclaimed wood or metal enhances a warm, homely vibe while contemporary pieces can present a more modern take on faith. The beauty of faith-based decor is its versatility; it can blend seamlessly into any style, be it vintage, modern, or minimalist. Placement Matters Think about where you would like to display these inspirational pieces. High-traffic areas such as the living room or entryway can benefit from large focal pieces, while more intimate spots like the bedroom can accommodate smaller, personal reminders of faith. Rustic faith-based pallet art Rustic Accents to Create a Cozy Atmosphere In times of uncertainty, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance in your home can significantly impact your mood. Rustic decor elements, such as wooden signs or table blocks with inspirational quotes or stone coasters engraved with meaningful scriptures, can infuse your space with a sense of peace. Gathering Around the Table Consider adding faith-based decor to your dining area as well. A simple wooden centerpiece with candles or a potpourri of seasonal flowers can make family gatherings feel truly special. Paired with a handwritten prayer or blessing displayed nearby, mealtimes become opportunities for gratitude and reflection. Accessories that Speak Volumes Don’t overlook small decorative items, such as faith-themed coasters, mugs , or table blocks. These subtle touches can serve as constant reminders of God’s presence and joy within your home. Engaging accessories create warmth and make entertaining guests more meaningful, allowing each individual to reflect on their spiritual journeys together. Faith-based Decor with Quotes for Daily Motivation Imagine waking up each morning to an inspiring phrase that encourages you to navigate the day with faith. Inspirational quotes—whether painted on a canvas or displayed in a decorative frame—can provide just the boost you need. Final Thoughts: Stay Grounded in Faith No matter how chaotic the world around us may seem, we can remain grounded in our faith in God and our Christian values. By incorporating faith-based decor into your home, you’ll create an environment that reflects God’s consistent nature amid life’s shifting shadows. Remember, your space is a reflection of your heart. Infusing it with pieces that inspire and uplift will not only enrich your life but also the lives of those who enter your home. Whether you choose to adorn your walls with scripture, incorporate rustic decor, or create personalized art, may your home stand as a beacon of faith and hope for years to come. Create your sanctuary today, and let it remind you daily that even when everything around us changes, God is a constant light guiding us through. After all, in a world where everything moves, we can find comfort knowing that God never shifts like the shadows. In the end, embracing faith-based decor is not just about beautifying your space; it’s about embedding your faith into your very environment. Your home can be a testimony of love, hope, and God’s enduring presence amid change. May it continue to inspire you and provide refuge as you navigate through life's uncertainties. ~ edited by Katherine

  • Craftsmanship Amid Change: Ontario-made Mennonite Furniture in Today's Political Climate.

In today’s rapidly changing world, where global supply chains dominate, and mass-produced furniture floods the market, the Mennonite community in Ontario continues to produce handcrafted, locally-made furniture that remains a symbol of quality, tradition, and resilience. But what does Mennonite-made furniture mean in the context of today's political climate? How do these time-honored traditions of craftsmanship hold up in a world where politics, economics, and environmental concerns seem to shape everything we do? Let’s take a deeper look at the significance of Mennonite furniture in Ontario today, particularly in light of the current political landscape. 1. Preserving Mennonite Furniture Tradition in an Ever-Changing World The Mennonite community in Ontario has long been known for its deep commitment to tradition. Mennonite furniture is a reflection of that commitment: handmade, meticulously crafted, and built to last for generations. In an era dominated by mass production and disposable consumer goods, Mennonite furniture stands out as a symbol of quality and sustainability. In today’s political climate, where concerns about the environment, overconsumption, and corporate consolidation dominate discussions, Mennonite furniture offers an alternative. It’s a reminder that quality craftsmanship—rooted in a slower, more deliberate approach to production—can be a solution to many of today’s social and environmental issues. Mennonite artisans use locally sourced materials, often handpicked from Ontario’s forests and mills, emphasizing sustainable practices at every stage of production. While the world moves quickly, these furniture makers have remained steadfast, preserving the values of patience, simplicity, and care—values that are increasingly hard to find in a society obsessed with instant gratification. 2. Ontario-made Economic Independence and Local Manufacturing In today’s political landscape, the issue of economic independence has become more significant. The global supply chain disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, a new trade war, and political instability have shown how vulnerable the world is to foreign dependency. Mennonite furniture producers in Ontario, however, continue to create jobs and stimulate the local economy. They contribute to Ontario's prosperity by keeping production local and sustainable. Mennonite communities have long valued economic self-sufficiency and local production. In a world where large corporations dominate and the trend of outsourcing continues to rise, the Mennonite furniture industry in Ontario offers an example of how local craftsmanship can thrive in a global economy. This focus on local production allows the community to remain insulated from some of the political and economic forces that affect other industries, providing stability and a sense of autonomy. In a world that often seems to prioritize multinational corporations over small, family-owned businesses, Mennonite furniture represents the power of small-scale, ethical production that values people over profits. 3. Sustainability and Political Movements The political climate today is deeply concerned with environmental sustainability, and this is an area where Mennonite furniture makers shine . The environmental movement has never been more vocal, with discussions surrounding carbon footprints, deforestation, and the unsustainable practices of large furniture manufacturers gaining traction. Mennonite craftsmen, however, have been focused on sustainability for generations. Many Mennonite furniture makers in Ontario still adhere to traditional methods of sourcing materials, which often means using locally harvested wood. The community places great importance on ensuring that natural resources are used responsibly and sustainably, avoiding the mass deforestation that is so often associated with modern manufacturing. The careful, thoughtful design of Mennonite furniture ensures that it’s made to last, avoiding the wastefulness of disposable, cheaply made products. In a political environment where environmental concerns are ever-present, buying Mennonite-made furniture is a conscious decision to support businesses that align with eco-friendly values. It's a way to push back against the fast fashion mentality of today’s consumer world and prioritize long-term value over short-term trends. 4. Navigating Cultural and Political Tensions Mennonites in Ontario, like many religious and cultural communities, have historically kept a low political profile, focusing more on their work and family values than on broader political movements. However, in today’s politically polarized world, even their tradition of quiet, community-centered living can be seen through a lens of cultural and political tensions. There’s a growing conversation around cultural preservation versus assimilation, especially in the context of immigrant communities and religious minorities. Mennonite communities often find themselves in the middle of these discussions. Their way of life, deeply rooted in principles of simplicity, humility, and faith , stands in contrast to much of the mainstream political discourse, particularly when debates around modernity, religion, and the role of tradition in the public sphere come into play. Mennonite furniture in this context can be seen as a symbol of resilience. By continuing to create their handcrafted furniture, Mennonites in Ontario are not only preserving their cultural heritage but also offering an alternative to the consumerism and political discontent that often dominates modern life. The furniture itself, built with care and attention to detail, reflects the values of family, faith, and community that Mennonites hold dear in the face of larger political and social pressures. 5. Cultural Significance and Political Identity As the political climate becomes more divisive, there’s also a larger conversation about national identity and the importance of heritage. For many Ontarians, Mennonite-made furniture embodies a strong sense of identity—an identity tied to the province’s roots in craftsmanship, family-run businesses, and faith-driven communities. In today’s political environment, where issues like immigration, social inclusion, and cultural preservation dominate the headlines, Mennonite furniture serves as a gentle reminder that traditions matter. Our efforts at continued production of this furniture offers a sense of continuity in a time of great instability. Made-in-Ontario Mennonite furniture holds great significance in today’s political climate. As we face global challenges, from environmental crises to political divisions, the tradition of Mennonite craftsmanship offers a refreshing alternative to the fast-paced, mass-produced world of modern furniture. By choosing locally crafted, sustainably made furniture, consumers are making a statement—not just about their design preferences, but about their values. By offering you this option, we are also keeping our values: faith in Christ, simple living, affordablility, and supporting each other. ~ edited by Katherine

Measuring 64" x 20" x 36", our Huron dresser has three drawers on the top with two rows of two drawers each underneath. These drawers are dovetailed, and also have soft close slides, for that “step above” vibe. The slides are also adjustable, and the drawers will be straight and flush. Rather than having the drawers touching and close together, we have created extra facing in between the drawers for visual appeal. However, we haven’t sacrificed any space. All the room needed for storage is still available for use. The top drawers measure 17" wide, and 4.5" deep. The bottom drawers are 27" wide, and 7" deep. Also “above traditional” is the base of the dresser. Dresser base Rather than having legs or feet as dressers often do – or being flat on the floor – we have a stunning diagonally shaped base, which allows for air flow under your dresser while looking unique and elegant, but not ornate. The Huron 6 drawer highboy dresser: Matching our 7-drawer dresser is the solid wood 6-drawer highboy. Created extra wide (36” x 20”) and extra tall (49.5”), this is an eye-catching piece! Extra facing gives a visual appeal – and while the drawers at first appear shallow, they have more space than needed. The drawers are extra wide due to the size of the dresser, and at 29.5” x 4.75” (inside dimensions), fit everything you need and more. All the drawers are fashioned with dovetailed construction and sanded to perfection, and include soft close slides. Smooth! The base of the 6-drawer dresser is built to match the other pieces. No concerns about air flow, but no concerns about being mundane either. This base is stable and solid as well. Functionality and fabulous meet in the solid wood Huron dresser! The Huron 2-drawer night stand: Deep and delightful...a perfect description of the night stand for this amazing bedroom collection. Built to match our Huron dressers in every way – including base, soft close slides, dovetailed construction, and class – the Huron night stand “stands out” in any bedroom. Huron Nightstand The drawers in this night stand are very deep, measuring 15.5” wide and 7” deep (inside measurement). The solid wood Huron night stand is also 28.5” high. All the space without sacrificing the style! The Huron Mission Bed: Detail and design have gone into this beautiful bed. Each ledge and slat are made true and straight. Your bedroom will be a masterpiece! All four posts are solid wood, and measure 4” square. The side rails can be an adjustable height so that you can have a bed with or without a box spring. The head board and foot board work either way. Our foot board is built out from the mattress slightly to allow for your quilt or duvet to be tucked down behind without any fuss. However, the mattress will not slide back and forth either. Prefer a bed frame without a foot board? No problem! This frame can be made with simply an end support instead. Each under slat is made from a solid piece of wood and is 3.5” wide, and has a support piece (2” solid square) to touch the floor underneath. The Huron Mission Queen bed is 65” wide x 89” long. The footboard is 30” high, and the headboard is 48.5” high. Stability is standard and stunning in this bed frame! The Huron Platform bed: Perhaps you don’t like the idea of dust or clutter under your bed. You can always go with our Huron Platform bed! Same “step above” quality, in a simple base and platform, with a solid wood headboard for visual appeal. A Huron bedroom collection can be completed with our Huron dressers and night stands, along with a platform bed. Simple? Solid? Stunning? Yes! Yes! Yes! Huron Platform Bed As always, sizes can be customized in the dressers and nightstands, as well as in bed height – whether under the bed or the height of the headboard. Our Huron collection is also available in other wood types, such as oak or brown maple. We always offer your choice of stain, and have commercial options as well as any Minwax colour. All dressers and night stands come with your choice of handles or pulls. Our solid wood Huron collection meets all standards and styles – minimalist to elegant. • Our Story: Cinnamon Cabin Co, Canadian and Committed.

Cinnamon Cabin Co Showroom Every family has a story, including a family-run business. Ours is no exception. However, I think our story of a Canadian and committed beginning is perhaps a little more unique! Cinnamon Cabin Co has been open as a Canadian business for almost 5 years now, and perhaps it’s time to share these beginnings with you! In the fall of 2019, my husband, Josh, and I were on a trip to New Brunswick when I began telling him about some cabin décor I had found online, and had noticed that the same things weren’t available in our area, or Ontario, or really even Canada. Jokingly, I commented that we could open a store in our town of Clinton, and sell similar products, with a Canadian edge. Josh is always ready for a joke. . . but he got serious about this one. Two of our daughters were at an age to want/need a job, and quality jobs were not easy to find nearby. What better way to provide them with work than to open a store and have our family work together? So, along with my misgivings, we began looking for space to lease in Clinton and the nearby area. Although the pastor of a local church, Josh also works on the side to offset our living costs. As a certified cabinetmaker and kitchen installer, he had some work and/or friend relationships with several local Mennonite kitchen and furniture craftsmen. Rather than simply sell rustic cabin décor , we concluded that we could also provide an option for high quality, Mennonite-made, Canadian furniture . We value solid wood furniture in our home, and we have a number of the same pieces that we also sell through our business. (In fact, one of the drawbacks to having a business like this is trying to keep from putting everything we make into our house!) Because we highly value quality solid wood furniture, but also look for affordable options, we concluded that we wanted our store values to be the same. We make every effort to work with Mennonite craftsmen who will build an excellent product, yet we also want to be able to offer you an economical price, on sale or not. We found a space in Clinton that seemed like it would work, signed a lease, and then we went to work! Replacing flooring, ceiling tiles, and lights. Painting, and installing our iconic log walls in our “Cabin”. Building our counter space, building our inventory, and Our iconic log wall building a website. We had never owned a retail business before, and certainly have learned a lot – some through the school of hard knocks! As any true Canadian knows, mistakes are meant to be learned from. Yet when we were done, we had created a beautiful small showroom with a peaceful wilderness atmosphere. Perfect! We had planned to open our store in March of 2020, but. . . you guessed it. The pandemic hit, and our doors were not allowed to open. So, in May 2020 we concluded that we would make an effort to open for curbside pickup only – a bit of a challenge when you aren’t even a known business. But we’re Canadian, just like you, and challenges are meant to be overcome. One family friend commented that if we could get a business going during a pandemic, then we could walk on water. However, we have concluded that it still takes Jesus to walk on water – and we do our best to honour Him every step of the way. That’s why when I was given the opportunity to carry high quality, faith-based décor with a rustic theme, I jumped on it. What better way to glorify the One Who means everything to us? faith based decor Five years later, we’re still here. One daughter has married and we have two beautiful grandchildren. Another daughter helps us out at times, but has her own job now. Josh and I have formed a business partnership based on a marriage relationship of almost 28 years. My misgivings I mentioned? Sometimes I still have them, but the passion to provide amazing furniture and décor to grace your home and family, along with affordability, overcomes them every time. Our business is Canadian, for Canadians. We are committed to Christ, our family, our clients, and Canadian products with value. Cinnamon Cabin Co? Canadian commitment! ~ Katherine P.S. Why the name “Cinnamon”? She is our stunning Siberian Husky , and Josh’s pride and joy! Cinnamon

  • Cinnamon Cabin Co: Committed to more than "Made in Canada"

Canadian brand mittens At Cinnamon Cabin Co , we are proud to be Canadian! That’s why we support “made in Canada” furniture and décor. Most of the solid wood furniture we provide is not only Canadian-made, but made in Ontario as well, and we are committed to keep it that way. We are also continually sourcing Canadian brands of home décor products as well. Made in Canada for Canadians! We love it. However, while we are committed to “Made in Canada”, we are also committed to care – about family, clients, quality, and affordability. Care about family: We care about our family! That’s one of the reasons why we started a family business. We wanted to give our children a quality place to work, and also have a way of making a living that involved our family. However, we care about your family, too. We want you to be able to have furniture that will last, so that your family can enjoy it for years. We’d like to provide you with a stunning dining table and chairs , so that your family will want to take time to eat and converse together. We’d be privileged to craft your Cambridge coffee table family’s bedroom furniture, so solid and secure that each of you will sleep well. Our coffee tables and end tables aren’t “budget-breakers”, and will last through every at-home evening your family spends together. Our care also extends to our craftsmen’s families. Our goal is to continue to provide them with work, so that they, too, can support and enjoy their families. Our craftsmen are more than business partners, they are often friends. Our youngest son enjoys playing with our Amish finisher's boys. My husband left our son to spend the afternoon with our Amish finisher's family - and as Josh went out the drive one way, our son went out the drive the other way with his friends, in a buggy pulled by a horse! Families in Canada matter, too! Care about clients: I realize this was covered somewhat in the previous section. But we also care about our clients as people, as individuals. We’re not just interested in selling you a product; we are interested to hear about your children or grandchildren, the reasons why you are purchasing a new piece of furniture, the life challenges you are facing and working through. We have time to listen – pressure sales do not happen at here at Cinnamon Cabin Co. Our goal is to make your purchase an experience of care. . . care about your desires for your furniture, but also for your family, and ultimately care about you yourself! Canadians care for Canadians! We matter to each other. Waterloo table, Glencoe Avenue chairs Care about quality: To us, “made in Canada” means quality. We don’t have time for poorly made products, and are not interested in providing inferior work. Our goal is to have “Canadian-crafted” defined as real solid wood furniture. We are particular about which Mennonite craftsmen we work with, as excellence begins at the source. And, because we are all human, the furniture is inspected by us once it has been completed. Also, since even we are human (lol), if there is a concern about the furniture we crafted for you, we will do our best to resolve it, if we are able to. Excellence is Canadian! Care about affordability: Not a popular word these days, but it’s on everyone’s minds. Cost factor counts. That’s why at Cinnamon Cabin Co we strive to keep our prices affordable just the way they are, not just when furniture is on sale. Fine-crafted furniture should be available to all fine people – all Canadians. Beauty need not be “budget-breaking”. Quality shouldn’t have to be costly. We are passionate about our products, and are as excited as you are (well...almost!) when you take home what you wanted at a price you could afford. Economy and excellence meet in “Canadian-made!” Made in Canada So, we care. It’s a commitment we’ve made and kept. Jesus Christ cares, and His care is the foundation for ours. It’s more than “made in Canada” for us. We’re also offering you “made in Christ” care. He makes more than a “world” of difference – the difference is eternal! ~ Katherine

  • Bed Basics: A Better Sleep is a Mennonite Crafted Bed!

Niagara Shaker Bed A bedroom is intended to be a place of peace and quiet, and a space of sleep and security – and how quickly that can be shattered by a squeaking headboard, a scraped shin on a metal frame, or a sagging boxspring and mattress. Beds were meant to be solid and secure, and a place to rest weary bodies and relax. Mennonite crafted beds , made from solid wood, are the best for a great night’s sleep! Why? Let me share: A Mennonite crafted bed is made as if the craftsman were going to use it for himself or his family. Made from solid wood, each bed includes headboard and footboard, side rails, and cross pieces with floor supports. The joints are not loose or shaky, and the posts on the headboard and footboard are a solid piece of wood. The tenons used to join the siderails to the posts are made from sturdy metal and screwed directly into the posts, and the siderail metal pieces are checked to ensure they fit well. Each bed includes at least 5 cross pieces, and usually more, so that your boxspring and/or mattress have the most secure base on which to rest. While we do recommend placing plywood under the mattress if you prefer not to have a boxspring, that is simply to save your mattress. You could do without it, and you would find your rest just as good. The floor supports simply rest on the floor to keep your slats from breaking or bending. Place any mattress and/or boxspring on the bed and sleep will be sweet! When you purchase a Mennonite crafted bed from Cinnamon Cabin Co, you will have some custom choices available to you, besides the style. Your bed can be made slightly shorter or taller, should you have a particular space you need to place it in. Perhaps you have a sloping ceiling, and the headboard can only be so high. No problem! We can simply make the posts a little shorter and it will fit. Some would prefer the under-space to be higher in order to fit storage underneath. We can make that happen! One bedframe we customized was high enough to fit medium size storage totes underneath. Your Mennonite crafted bed can also be made without a footboard, if you should so prefer. While we can simply make a headboard and it can be attached to your existing metal frame, wood side rails and cross pieces make for a better foundation for your bed. A low frame can simply be made for the rails to attach to at the foot of your bed, and no one will be the wiser! We can also make a frame that works for your adjustable bed. Because of the headboard and footboard, we can have siderails that simply fit around the outside of your mattress base, and the bed looks like any other solid wood bedframe. Mennonite crafted beds come in several styles. One popular style, largely due to its minimalist appeal, is a platform bed . These have a solid base and headboard, but no footboard. The only drawback to this style is that the mattress is not secure on the base, and can slide around...and often they are made low to the floor, although that could be rectified by a simple custom fix. The solid base also means no storage space underneath. Huron Mission Bed Another popular style, which also fits a simple vibe, is a flat panel shaker bed . While not being the focal point of the bedroom, these beds do offer beautiful, classic charm. Perhaps you enjoy a primitive, or rustic, atmosphere. A sawcut raised panel shaker bed would be perfect! Made entirely of solid wood, with unique sawcut marks, and finished in the colour of your choice – you’ll sleep soundly with style. A mission bed is another style to sleep well in. The craftsmanship and detailing of our mission bed is second to none, yet the price is affordable. Thought you couldn’t buy a better night’s sleep? Think again! Kerwood Chalet Bed Maybe you’ve always wanted to live in a lodge, or perhaps you do. A cedar log bed gives cabin or lodge appeal like no other bed style will. Crafted with care, each bed is unique, as the logs are shaped differently every time. At Cinnamon Cabin Co, our log beds can also be made with a black metal silhouette piece in the footboard. Do you hunt deer, love to fish, or perhaps are mad about moose? We can have the scene silhouette that fits your personality placed in the footboard of your log bed. Unique? Classy? Oh, yes! Buying a bed need not be a search of a lifetime, nor does it need to be financially stressful. A Mennonite crafted bed simply makes sleep sense! At our custom Mennonite furniture store , we make the decision simple...we can fit your space, your mattress, your vibe, your budget, and provide you with the solid, secure bed that makes sleep better. ~ Katherine

  • Furniture Flair: How Important are Furniture Fashion Trends?

Fashion trends affect every facet of living, although the word “fashion” is often applied more to clothing than anything else. However, even in furniture, trends do appear – and disappear – about as quickly as they do in makeup or jewelry! How important is it, then, to pay attention to furniture fashion? Axel Dining Table You may be the kind of person who likes to stand out, which would cause you to look for a piece of furniture that is different and unique. Changing a dining table or bedroom set when the furniture fashion changes, or you are now tired of what you purchased, isn’t as simple as changing a few things in a wardrobe. After all, if you have purchased high quality Mennonite furniture, you will have invested more in it than the price of a pair of brand quality jeans. Also, the motive you may have had in investing in Mennonite furniture is to have something that will last and not need to be replaced for a long time...if ever. What to do in a world where fashion, even in furniture, seems to matter? Remember that furniture is a foundation. Your style of décor can be built around, and on (literally) the furniture of each room in your home. Décor, such as wall art, table blocks, lamps, table runners, and throws are much more easily changed as your tastes in style change, than the furniture in your home. Purchase furniture that can easily morph between a few different vibes, be it boho, primitive, or rustic. You may be someone who’s attention has French Walnut Dining Table been captured by bold modern, but only a few years ago, preferred a traditional classic decorative approach. Not to stress! Furniture can be chosen and made that could be used in either setting. Furniture undergirds the aesthetic of a home, but it doesn’t have to decide it. Take some time to think about what draws you. When you visit friends and family, when you are window shopping, or browsing online, what vibe do you return to again and again? Is it uncluttered and minimalist? Then chunky legs on a table, or heavy chairs, are likely not the best choice for you. Nor would a lot of dark, rich colors in your furniture. A harvest table, or fine trestle table , would meet your space needs and lighter colors tend to make your space seem larger. So, if your home space is small, lighter stain with a furniture style that is clean and simple will likely last in your liking for a long time to come...and better yet, never goes out of style. Maybe what you are drawn to is a warm and rich approach, with the fireplace, throws, and rugs. If so, then a sawcut aesthetic on a bedroom set, or live edge end tables and coffee Niagara Sawcut Bed tables in your living room, will meet that core connection. A harvest trestle table with heavier chairs, or a rustic x-base table with more solid chairs, would suit you. Throw in some wildlife wall art, a cozy cabin throw pillow or two, and candles! Warm brown tones in stain will make that kind of furniture welcoming to you, and you will revel in the fireside friendliness you feel – and your family will, too. Perhaps you go back to the inspirational photos of bold black and white, straight edges, and unique shapes. Try black chairs at a simply white table, with a black sideboard in the room, and simply white modern end tables beside your black leather sofa and chairs. Waterloo table & Kingston chairs Black chairs are making furniture fashion sense right now, but it doesn’t matter. Does black ever go out of style? Black Mennonite chairs last a long time, but black chairs can be paired with almost any color of wood stain – making them one of the most neutral pieces of furniture fashion in your home. Are you just plain practical? Choose your furniture according to your common sense, and not according to the commands of fashion. A large family requires a large dining table. A small bedroom doesn’t fit a king log bed frame very well. Occasional company might need an expandable table with leaves that can be stored away. A decent sized living room does need a coffee table and end tables, but shelves under those tables would make storage sense. Be practical in your furniture fashion choices, and you will be satisfied with what you invest in for many years to come. Foundationally, just be you. Furniture fashion isn’t really all that important. If you choose something too unique, you may tire of it before anyone else does! If you decide on all black and white furniture, simply because that is what fashion dictates, when you would really rather have dark walnut and wilderness...you’ll have invested in the wrong atmosphere for your home and heart. God created us with our personalities and preferences. He loves for us to embrace our faith in Him, not furniture fashion, through allowing what He has created in us to shine in our space, and to our family and friends. Will you find freedom in furniture fashion? No, but you will through faith in Jesus Christ! ~ Katherine

  • Worship? Sacrifice.

Sacrifice has been a part of worship almost from the very beginning of this world. We find the thought begun with Cain and Abel – a sacrifice was to be offered as a way of worshipping the Almighty God. As Christians, we know that Jesus gave Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for sin, and we no longer offer the animal sacrifices and such as they did before. Yet, the principle of sacrifice being part of worship hasn’t changed, as the principles laid down by God’s law still apply. It’s true that sacrifice is often portrayed in terms of money – giving an offering for some cause, i.e.: Forgo your coffee for one week, and give the money for missions, etc. However, truth be told, in the New Testament, the word “sacrifice” is never used in reference to money or income of any kind. I puzzled over that. Giving money seems, to the New Testament church, to be considered a matter of normalcy. Our tithes would be paid, and people would give to support the church and those who were teaching them in the ministry. Period. Today, we are called upon to “sacrifice” financially for this cause, and that cause, and another cause – so we give our extra “coffee money” and feel good about ourselves because we sacrificed…. or not. Simply put, Christians will give their money to make sure God’s work is supported. Every Christian. Period. What, then, is sacrifice? Sacrifice is still part of worship, that much is clear. The principle begun in the Old Testament law still applies. If not blood sacrifices, because Jesus paid that price once and for all, then what? Here is what I found in my search through the New Testament portion of God’s Word: Our bodies . In Romans 12:1-2, Paul the apostle begs his readers to present their bodies as a living sacrifice. He says that it is every person’s common-sense service to the Almighty God. The sacrifice of ourselves is also the way that we will know what God’s perfect will is for our lives. Our intricate, and perhaps failing, bodies should be His by right, but sin and Satan have taken control. Since we have been redeemed and remade a child of God, we ought to present these bodies as a living sacrifice. Not a dead sacrifice, as was the case with the animal sacrifices of the Old Testament, but living – ongoing, daily, useful, hopeful, blessed. Praise . I found these words written in God’s Word, “By Him (Christ) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks unto His name.” (Hebrews 13:15) Praise is another sacrifice to be offered unto God. Recently I read that, on average, people complain once every 60 seconds. Ouch. I started trying to think through the words I had just said to see if I had been complaining! However, if this is true, it is no wonder that praise is called a sacrifice. It is not always the easiest thing to do! Notice also, that praise is not a feeling – it is called the fruit of our lips. Words. Not thankful emotions or thoughts, but actually speaking praise out loud. Even when the car breaks down, or the children break down, or my best-laid plans break down. It’s so easy to tell God He is praised when the morning light is breaking and the sky is clear and the sun is rising. Praise is another matter altogether when the day is done, and the body is done, but the laundry isn’t and neither is the mind! Offer the sacrifice…praise. Doing Good . Paul, in his letter to the Philippian church, commends them for the helpful gift that had been sent to meet his physical and material needs. He calls it “a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing unto God.” (Phil. 4:18) I also found in Hebrews 13:16 that “doing good” is a sacrifice with which God is wellpleased. Why is doing good to others, or giving material goods to meet others’ needs a sacrifice? I wonder if it has to do with the focus. I am meeting someone else’s need whether mine are being met or not. Jesus also said that to love our neighbor as ourself was the ultimate sacrifice. We are inundated in this society with the directives to find ourselves, know ourselves, get in touch with our feelings, etc. However, Jesus didn’t teach or act in this way. He was willing to sacrifice Himself in a way we may never fully comprehend. Surely, as His follower, I can also sacrifice by shifting the focus from me to others. Fellowship . In Hebrews 13:16, another sacrifice which is well-pleasing to God is to “communicate”. (KJV) The word in our modern English could be translated “fellowship”. Spending time in fellowship with other believers is a well-accepted sacrifice with our Father! Perhaps you are one who might feel that it is not a sacrifice to spend time in fellowship with other people, but I would venture to say there are some reading this who would - and I know, for me, at times it is a sacrifice. When life is not what I expected, perhaps not what I wanted – when the people I need to fellowship with rub me the wrong way, those are times when it could be a sacrifice to fellowship. Yet it is a sacrifice that I can offer, in worship, and I know that God my Father will be pleased. Faith . Paul mentions the sacrifice of faith in Philippians 2:17. I wonder if faith is the greatest sacrifice of all! I think faith has been watered down too much in our Christian culture – “of course, I believe that Jesus is the Son of God,” so…. that’s faith, and that’s that. But that is not the definition of faith in the Bible. Faith is believing that what I can’t see, hear, touch, or experience is fact. When I believe that Jesus has forgiven my sins, and act accordingly, that’s faith. When I believe that God will provide for all of my needs – emotional, physical, spiritual, financial – and act accordingly, that’s faith. When I believe that I will see Jesus for myself one day, and act accordingly, that’s faith. When I believe that I have a real relationship with Jesus, and act accordingly, that’s faith. I could go on, but I hope you noted the common factor: When I believe that…and act accordingly. Really believing means that I will think and act on what I believe. That’s faith, and it constitutes a sacrifice with which God is so happy! Offering sacrifices such as these ought to make up my days, and if they do, then I am worshipping all week! Which is how all Christians ought to live. When I come to Sunday worship, I should simply be bringing with me these sacrifices that have been laid upon the altar all week long – what a sweet smell it is to my Father! Worshipping together, Katherine

Creating an Inviting Atmosphere Transforming your home with solid wood furniture is the first step. To create a truly inviting atmosphere for faith-filled gatherings, consider these elements: 1. Lighting: Soft, warm lighting creates a welcoming ambiance. Using string lights or candles can enhance the emotional warmth you aim to establish. 2. Personal Touches: Arrange items that express your faith, like photographs, scripture art, or handmade decorations. These unique pieces not only enhance your décor but also spark meaningful conversation. Incorporating Traditions Every family boasts unique traditions that enrich gatherings. Whether it’s a cherished prayer before meals or a special song, incorporating these practices can foster a sense of continuity. You might also create a "tradition corner" at your table, showcasing family heirlooms or faith-related keepsakes. These symbols serve as conversation starters, reminding everyone of your shared heritage and beliefs. Embracing the Moments As you gather around your solid wood dining table, remember that the beuaty lies in the moments you create together. Celebrate life's small victories, share dreams, and offer support. While your furniture sets the stage, it’s the people gathered that truly bring life to your home. Consider documenting these special occasions through photos or journal entries. Creating a keepsake book to cherish memories shared at your table allows for revisiting the essence of your faith-filled gatherings time and again. Create Your Sanctuary Transforming your home into a sanctuary of faith and connection doesn’t need to feel daunting. By embracing solid wood furniture and nurturing a spirit of gathering, you can create a space that radiates warmth and love, and the presence of Jesus Christ. Incorporate your personal style, honor family traditions, and focus on the relationships that matter most. With every meal shared and each story told, you weave a beautiful tapestry of experiences that reflect your values and beliefs. So, begin your journey today. Embrace the experience, and let your home become a beacon of love, laughter, and faith-centered gatherings.

  • Celebrating Couples: Creating Calm with Solid Wood Furniture

Which space in your home is best suited to a couples' needs? Perhaps some would say the den or living room - or if you like to cook, the kitchen. But one room, above all others, should be set up to celebrate you together as a couple - the bedroom. The best relationships and celebrations are founded on the calm of Jesus Christ. Yet, can solid wood furniture help to make your "couples" space reflect that calm? Let's look at the ways! Our Mennonite-made beds, dressers, and night stands are hand crafted with care and attention. Just like a relationship with a couple needs care and "hands on" attention! Our loving God also handcrafted us with care and a detailed design. Our craftsmen are interested in constructing bedroom furniture that reflects their faith and values - and ours. Hard work, attention to quality, love in action, and ability to stand up under pressure define the basics of good relationships - with Jesus and each other! These are also found in the construction of our bedroom pieces. Custom sizes, styles, and colours also can reflect who you both are together, and celebrate the uniqueness of God's creation. We're not all the same! Our beds, dressers, and night stands are made with only solid wood - so they are sturdy and able to withstand any pressure placed on them. Durable even with daily use, a solid wood bed adds a sense of stability in a space meant to be a haven from an uncertain world. Our solid wood dressers are made with smooth slides, and functional drawers. Spaces to put away the clutter that negatively impacts our calm, and without any undue effort on your part! No scratching or rough sounds to grate on nerves already taut from what the day has brought! Calm sounds are an integral part of our classic solid wood furniture - just as we find calm and peace in our solid foundation, Jesus Christ! Couples who care are those who have a open relationship! Our Mennonite-made bedroom furniture has no veneer - it is solid wood stained the colour of your choice. We believe in open relationships - with God and people - and our bedroom furniture and business practices reflect that. Placing solid wood furniture in your "couples corner" will reflect the openness of your relationship! Choose the stain colour that best will give you both a sense of security, quiet, relaxation, and calm. We have many stain options to choose from! Just as our faith in Christ is meant to be passed down to other generations, solid wood bedroom furniture can be handed down from family member to family member - and it will last! Surely this is one of the best ways to celebrate what being a couple means. The impact of memories on future generations by handing down furniture that was at one time yours means the influence of your "couple" companionship will also continue on with the memories you share. Share Jesus, as the one true lasting Foundation for life and relationships - and celebrate knowing Him together with your family. ~ Katherine

  • Colour Connection: Speak in your Space with Solid Wood Mennonite Furniture Stain.

Once you have selected the design or style of your new solid wood furniture, the decision is only half over. Now you have to make a choice on what colour of stain you would like! The choices seem endless – not only are there so many different shades, but there are also choices of having two different stains applied, perhaps one tone to the legs of your table and another to the top. Chairs, coffee tables, and sideboards can all be finished this way. So, how much does colour matter? Colour matters a lot! The question that needs to be answered first is what kind of atmosphere do you want in the room where you are placing your solid wood furniture pieces? Most of us have an idea of what we want to express to those who come in to our home, and the colour you choose will have a definite impact on their impression. Let’s take a look at some common colours and how they can help your furniture express what you desire most. Black: Let’s start with the favorite first! Black is very popular right now, particularly when it comes to chairs. There’s no question, it does look nice, especially if you are a “primitive/rustic” fan. Black actually can contribute to a warm atmosphere, if it is matched with something like a warm brown table. However, should you put black with a white or cooler shade like grey, then it would express rest as well. Black stain on solid wood can be very versatile, which makes it a great go-to colour when you want a contrast with your solid wood furniture. Black also expresses class and elegance, a great concept to have in almost any room of your home! Dark Walnut: What a beautiful warm brown shade! Craving a little warmth in your den, or perhaps your living room? Dark Walnut stain on your solid wood furniture will express that for you. You’ll find that it goes well with almost any décor theme, and will allow your guests to feel warm and welcomed in any space where you choose to place that colour. Cold in December? Warm colours work! Ebony: Let's look at the cooler, more restful side of the spectrum. Ebony, while normally a name for black, is actually grey with slight brown tones. It shows off the grain of your solid wood furniture beautifully, and gives that "Ahhhh" feeling when someone enters a room with ebony furniture. For a bedroom, ebony would be a great colour, and give you a space to sleep peacefully, or perhaps your guest room would be that great place. Again, it works well with almost any decor...and should you put an ebony table with black chairs in your dining room? The "Wow" factor will meet you! Another great "gray/brown" stain colour that we have found recently is Aged Barrel. Amazing on any solid wood furniture piece! Natural: Looking for happy? Sunshine? Brightness? Natural is a great colour to choose! It's a lighter, bright brown tone, and gives that feeling of cheerfulness to any room where you find it. Another colour along the same line, which makes your solid wood furniture stand out, is Early American light. While giving a slightly more "orange" tone, it also generates that sense of sunshine in the room where your Mennonite furniture is placed. Pair this one with black, and see your space shine! You can always simply clear coat your solid wood pieces, and the beauty of your wood will stand out. The only word of caution is that it will yellow over time. But if you're ok with that - go for it! Provincial: Another warm brown, but this one is rustic! We love this colour, and the grain and unique colouring of your wormy maple furniture will lend rustic charm to any room! Dining room, living room, bedroom, even your "man cave" will only be uplifted by the atmosphere this stain brings! Another great pair with black - amazing! So many more colours are out there to choose for your new solid wood Mennonite -crafted furniture...and remember, ours is made locally in Ontario! Keep in mind the atmosphere you want in your room - ask yourself what vibe you want to feel, and what expression of space you want to give your family and friends. Then choose the colour that best expresses those sentiment. Every room is made better by solid wood furniture! In keeping with our faith in Jesus Christ that we love to share, remember the best way to have the atmosphere you want everywhere in your home is to follow Him! The presence of Christ makes every home a place to relax, feel warmth and love, and find happiness and joy. ~ Katherine Cinnamon Cabin Co - where Excellence & Economy Meet.

  • Lasting Love: Make the Season Shine with Solid Wood Mennonite Furniture

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our area of Ontario – lights, snow, carols, and gift shopping. The endless endeavor to find that perfect present for those you love, or to bring that “wow” moment to someone’s Christmas day, can be challenging and feel overwhelming. Everyone wants to give a gift that matters, has meaning, and will bring lasting memories. Why not choose solid wood, Mennonite-crafted, furniture? Solid wood furniture makes a fantastic gift for couples, either to give to one partner or to simply give to each other. If you were to purchase a solid wood Mennonite bed-frame for a Christmas gift, not only is it a present that shows ultimate love, but every time your partner steps into that “special space” for sharing, they are reminded of how much you care. Perhaps a new dresser would be in order, or a set of night stands (now that’s a great gift for couples to give to each other!). Or, if you want to dazzle and delight, go all out and purchase an entire bedroom set! Set the stage for lasting memories of love. Perhaps you are looking for a gift for your adult children. A coffee table can be a great addition to their home! Many younger adults and families are still looking for that perfect focal point for their living room or den, and perhaps are not able to afford it. Think of the fond memories every glimpse of that table will bring, or perhaps the enjoyment of your love every time they put their feet up. Not only will the solid wood furniture last, but also the memories year after year. Then it can be handed down to another generation, who will not only benefit from the love, but also the precious memories involved. Throw in an end table or two! Looking for the gift that will bring out all the “oohs and ahhs?” Try a solid wood dining table , dining chairs, or perhaps a set! Whether it’s your spouse or your children, not only will a gift like that speak volumes to the recipient, but it will also speak to their guests and friends who see it. What voices the love more loudly than a beautiful table and chairs at which friends and family can sit in comfort and warmth? So many options exist to fit every budget, every vibe, and every taste. The quality of craftsmanship in a Mennonite made table and chairs outdoes many other gifts. Another quality piece, often overlooked but useful, is a sideboard. Whether three door or four, every solid wood sideboard gives extra serving space and extra storage space in every home. Here's a fun one! Grandchildren often have so many toys and games already – give a kitchen helper stool , so they can help you cook or bake, or perhaps a children’s size table and chairs. Still solid wood, still Mennonite made, so they will still outlast every child! Why go to a big box store and purchase a table and chairs for those precious grandchildren, when you can give them a gift that will last through every sibling and beyond, all without breaking the bank? Imagine their faces when they see that they can now help at the counter in the kitchen, or can easily sit at their own table to enjoy the Christmas feast! While not furniture, a unique and thoughtful gift is a solid wood charcuterie board. Mennonite crafted, these creative presents come in a variety of woods and sizes, and can be used by almost anyone. Made using solid cherry, walnut, and maple, each size and shape is different, which make them a perfect gift for several people. Not one gift will be the same! They can also often be found with small amounts of epoxy decorating the wood, and the colors are a charming addition. Purchase a set of charcuterie utensils, and some organic wood butter, and you’re all set for Christmas gifting! Perhaps you think that it’s too late to make these gifts happen – that there’s not enough time. Don’t worry! Place an order for your solid wood gift, and put a picture in a small gift box (or a big one for effect!). The appreciation and love will still be worth it, and you can include the choice of color in your gift! Another option is to come in-store and purchase solid wood furniture that is in stock. Your gift will be “under the tree” in time. Some items may be in stock unfinished, and can be stained to order...let them choose. Gift cards are also great option the perfect gift of choice – giving each family member the ability to select their own piece, style, and color that best suits their needs or wants. Solid wood charcuterie boards are easily found in store, and can be selected to match each individual. Gift cards can be purchased at Cinnamon Cabin Co , both in store and on our website. Make the season shine this year! As always, remember the reason for this beautiful season – Jesus Christ! Love originated with God, and was spoken into the world in creation, and displayed to the world in Christ. • Dining Delight: Details For Your Mennonite Dining Table, Part I

Basic Harvest Table Happy New Year! Have you made all your New Year’s resolutions yet? Perhaps you’ve already broken one or two. If one of your resolutions is to purchase a new dining table, there’s no need to fail. A Mennonite dining table that is solid wood is not easily broken! However, as you are choosing the style of table you would enjoy most, the details may seem endless. Every style exists, from several different materials, and in many different finish options. Don’t despair yet! Here’s some tips to help you navigate to a perfect purchase. Measure your space: How heartbreaking it is to think you are coming home with your perfect table, only to find that it takes up too much space! Take the time to measure where your table will be, and consider both the width and length that would work best, including chairs, for your dining room or eating area. As you are coming up with your measurements, remember that a rectangular table that is wider than 42 inches will make passing across the table a challenge. While a little extra width may seem like a good idea in order to add room for dishes and food, the trouble reaching across to the other person will not. A round table larger than 48 inches can also have the same problem. While it may seem unique, and better for allowing more people to fit around the table, you will find yourself passing everything around the table rather than across, which may become tedious. Whatever dimensions you decide on, should you need a narrower than normal table, or one that is longer, a custom Mennonite furniture store is the place to go. While you will have to wait for your table to be crafted, the time taken will be more than made up in a solid wood table that fits your home perfectly! Live Edge Trestle Table To “leaf” or not to “leaf”: Now that you have measured your space and calculated the dimensions that are best for you, what do you do about the length? Most tables can be made with a solid top, or an expandable top – where the top has a slide mechanism underneath it, and “leaves” can be placed in to give extra length. Both rectangular tables and round tables can be made expandable – a round table with leaves simply becomes more oval. There’s more to this decision than what simply meets the eye, not that looks don’t matter. Solid top Mennonite tables are made with the wood grain lengthwise – this gives visual appeal, and with extensive length, prevents warping. An expandable table top must be made with the expandable table mechanism grain crosswise so the leaves will fit the grain visually, and also prevent warping in the leaves. While the lengthwise grain may be more visually appealing, a solid top table can only be one size. With an expandable table, the option is there to have a smaller table for normal meals, and then a larger table when company is dining as well. Another consideration is whether you want a “skirt” on your table – the piece of trim that is under the table top. With a solid top, you can have one or not as you choose. With an expandable table, you will need a “skirt”, otherwise the expanding mechanism will show. Take the time to decide which “visual” makes you happy, but also which makes the most sense for your lifestyle and your space. Metal Trestle Table Thinking thickness: How thick do you want your table top? If you haven’t thought of this detail before, not to worry! You’re not alone. Most shoppers for a Mennonite table would simply take what they see, without considering that there might be a different option. Working with a custom Mennonite furniture store gives you the choice – do you like a chunky, rustic look or a sleek, modern look? Which vibe fits your home, or which width fits the grip of your hand better? Table tops can range from 7/8 inch to 1 3/4 inches thick – the standard thicknesses being 7/8, 1 1/4, and 1 3/4 inches. Purchasing your table from a custom Mennonite furniture store also gives you the benefit of a solid wood table – whichever thickness you choose, it will be solid wood...no particle core, no sawdust and glue with veneer on top...just strong, lasting, stained real wood! Of course, the thickness of your top will depend on the base you choose. Look for those tips, and more, in my next blog: Dining Delight, Part II. While we pause our discussion for now, we are always available to help, and will try to answer any questions you might have. Contact us - we love our “custom”ers! As always, Jesus Christ is the most important Person you will ever know. Faith in Him is solid and sure – better than any solid wood table you can find! Check out my blog post, “The True Tableland ”, and think about making this new year the best you’ve had with God. ~ Katherine

  • Dining Delight: Details For Your Mennonite Dining Table, Part II

Last week, we looked at a few decisions to think about when it comes to purchasing a dining table – width and length, expandable or solid, and the thickness of the top.  In this part, we are going to look at some other details you will want to decide before you make the final purchase. Cambridge Trestle Table Beyond Bases: The thickness of your table top may depend on the base of your Mennonite table.  The options are endless, and not always practical! With a rectangular table, you always have the option of simply four legs, one at each corner.  This is more minimalist in style, and creates a simple presentation.  You do lose, however, a little seating space, as no one can be seated comfortably at the corner of your table. Trestle bases have become quite popular, with a beam in the center, and two cross pieces at each end of the beam.  Some of these bases work well with expandable tables, while others do not – be sure to check with your custom Mennonite furniture shop before purchasing.  You do have the added advantage of being able to use every side and corner of your table, but one recommendation is check on how far the base feet come out to the edge of your table top.  You may have a problem with your chairs not being able to tuck in under the table, or company having to put their feet up on the base in order to sit at your solid wood table.  Trestle bases can also be chunkier or finer – choose the style the best suits the vibe of your home. If you have a chunky, solid looking x-base, then you may want a thicker top.  If you are more of a minimalist in style, then a tapered leg basic table with a thinner top would likely suit you best. Metal bases are also making a statement, often in black, with a lighter wood top.  If you are going with a metal base, you may also want a thicker top – it lends flair to your table.  For a round table, you also have the option of a pedestal – and again, the options seem endless.  A simple pedestal is modern, paired with a grey stain.  A round pedestal, such as our Lakehouse table , also has a unique look and will suit any home.  Metal bases also work with round tables, with unique leg placement – and you can still have four legs on a round table as well, if you would rather stick to the minimal style. Spalted Maple Which wood would a woodchuck…:  Another detail you will want to decide is which type of wood you are looking for in a table.  Again, the choices are many, and you will need to likely decide on your budget before you choose your wood.  Wormy, or ambrosia, maple is a popular and practical choice now – it is maple with extra grain coloring and also the unique holes that add character.  If you are concerned about food getting in the holes, as some people are, then a custom Mennonite furniture shop should be able to fill the holes so that the graining still exists. Walnut works well in live edge tables, as does spalted maple . However, they are not as budget friendly as other woods. Pine can be beautiful, but it is soft, and marks and dents easily.  Ash will also run a little higher in price, due to the nature of the wood, and the difficulty working it into something beautiful and of quality.  Whichever wood you choose, make sure that the furniture shop of your choice is using a solid product, and not veneer. Traditionally Unique:  Another option that comes with a table is the choice of top detailing.  A smooth, traditional edge table may fit your dining area with style, especially if you looking for minimalist options.  However, choices are available to have something a little more unique.  Live edge tables were already mentioned and can be a beautiful addition to any décor, especially with colored epoxy added. These tables cannot be made expandable, however. Sawcut Table An option available for expandable tables is “sawcut. ”  These are more rustic in look, with sawcut marks across the top of the table. Another feature is “wirebrush” rustic, which has smaller marks in the table top, but a smooth feel.  The possibilities are endless, but don’t despair.  As you have worked through each of these details step by step, the next one becomes easier to navigate because you have already decided some details, so the next decision needs to fit what you've already chosen. Working with a custom Mennonite furniture store also makes the decisions easier! Stain your Statement:   Keep in mind that color matters!  Since you are working with a custom furniture store that makes solid wood furniture, you will need to choose your stain .  Again, options abound, and the samples you will see will not always turn out exactly as shown.  A stain sample on maple versus wormy maple will be slightly lighter.  Oak has more grain and will have more variation than a clear maple sample.  The sanding also makes a difference as to how light or dark the stain is.  However, the basic tones and shades should still be the same, and you will still have a beautiful table to dine at!  Keep in mind how much light is in your dining area – if you have a lot of light, a dark table may be great.  If your area is darker, you may want to lighten your space with a lighter table.  One amazing look is to have a light table with dark chairs – which can be either black or dark brown.  Bear in mind that if you simply clear coat your table, it will yellow over time.  While warm, if that is not a tone you care for, using a natural stain, or a Minwax Simply White stain, will give you the look you want without the danger of yellowing.  Sawcut tables look really good with a warm Wood Stain Samples brown stain and dark chairs.  Basic tables suit the lighter tones.  Looking at a live edge table?  The choice is yours!  Go unique, and stand out of the crowd!  Any custom Mennonite furniture store should be able to take the time to help you decide which color suits you and your room.  While you may be tempted to match your flooring or the cabinets in your open concept kitchen, usually it is best to deliberately choose something complementary but not matching.  Unless the pieces are finished at the same time in the same finishing room, they will not be the same – and then you will be left with having looked like you tried to match and failed.  Better to go for flair rather than failure! As any Mennonite custom shop should, we are happy to take time with you and help you work through every detail of your dining table decision. When you are happy, then we are happy, too! Contact us with your questions and inspirational photos anytime. ~ Katherine

  • Simply White - NEW STAIN OPTION!

Hello! First of all, I apologize that this is not Part 3 of our current blog series. We don't have a Ladderback chair instore at the time of me writing this post, so it would be a little difficult for me to comment on it's comfort personally as I couldn't sit in it! Instead, I'm introducing a new colour - Simply White! When you hear Simply White, what did you think of? The current trend for kitchen cabinets? Literally white? Simply White is a transparent stain that offers the answer to anyone who loves the look of raw wormy maple, but would like it protected from life's unavoidable messiness. It looks SO close to raw wormy maple, but features the protection our finishing offers. Below is a photo of a Simply White Avenue Chair beside an unfinished 25" Saddle Stool. It's such a close colouring and is now available on all our standard furniture. Pair with another colour to create a 2-Tone, leave it on its own, or go for Simply White chairs instead of Black chairs for your dining table. Consider puttting our new stain option, Simply White, however you'd like and be creative! Thanks so much for reading! Leave a comment below! Be kind and considerate and always feel free to pop in a suggestion for future posts. Until next time, stay safe and healthy!

  • Faith Beyond Furniture!

As a born again believer in Christ, I am bringing a shift to this blog. Not that furniture styles, colours, and sales are not important to me! However, while I own a furniture store, my faith is more of a priority to me than anything. Faith in God is foundational! My desire has been to bring my Heavenly Father glory through my business, as well as provide a great product and beautify homes. We love to hear that the atmosphere in our store is beautiful and peaceful, and also to have people notice that we are a faith-based business. I am now saying "we", as my husband is a pastor of a local church, and together we have continued to develop and improve what we offer in our store - both in furniture and in faith! I will be regularly sharing my Christian life in this space. My hope is to bring glory to the One Who forever truly loves me, Jesus Christ. He is my very best Friend, and we've spent a lot of time together, Jesus doing the perfect teaching, and me doing the not-so-perfect learning! As solid as we strive to make our furniture, my greatest desire and effort is to strengthen my faith in, and show others, the Solid Rock. He's where I stand! As you search our site, and perhaps step into our store, I hope you find the perfect furniture for your home. But, to be honest, what I really hope for is that you'll seek and find the Perfect Friend for your heart, Jesus Christ! Katherine

  • Stained

Stains - we work with them regularly. Colour options seem endless, and we enjoy helping you choose what fits your style the best. While we don't usually refinish furniture through our store, my husband, as a certified cabinet-maker (as well as a pastor), has had occasion to do so. Stripping a piece of furniture of its stain requires the right kind of remover. Not just anything will do the right job. Thinking of stained furniture brought to mind the old but wonderful hymn "Grace Greater Than Our Sin." One verse begins this way, "Dark is the stain that we cannot hide..." All the human race is stained by sin - and the stain is very dark and very deep. Often the question is asked, maybe not out loud, "How can I get rid of this stain?" Our Heavenly Father, offering such infinite grace, has the perfect stain remover - the blood of Jesus Christ! When we come to Jesus and ask forgiveness for our sins, our Father washes all the dark stain away, and we are now unstained! Unstained, unsoiled, and under the protecting blood of Jesus! Not just anything can do the job of taking away the dark stain of sin, either. Turning over a new leaf doesn't work. Simply trying to do lots of good things just rubs, but doesn't remove the stain. One thing I know from experience is that there is nothing in any of us, or that we can do, that is worthy of God's attention, yet He loves us and calls us and searches for us, over and over and over again. My Father has the only solution that can utterly and completely remove the stain of sin, and He wants to apply it to all who will let Him! We find in the Bible, God's written Word, "...the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin...if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:7,9 KJV) Let God strip you of the stain of sin, and join me in this journey that never ends - at least not until we enter our Father's House - Heaven. ~ Katherine

  • Faith,The True Tableland

Tables! Most homes have one, and often need a new one. If we are the fortunate people to provide you with a new table, we want you to have the style you like - but more importantly, we want it to be solid, steady, and sturdy. A table that shakes or wobbles, or comes apart, isn't the type we want you to have. A table like that isn't going to last for many years to come! In the hymn "Higher Ground", the writer asks God, "Lift me up, and let me stand, by FAITH, on heaven's tableland." My Father has been challenging my faith recently, because the kind of faith that will last for years to come needs to be steady, solid, and sturdy. The difficulty with faith is that we are human, and very in tune with our five senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing, and sight. Faith doesn't use any of them! In fact, my Bible tells me that "faith is the evidence of things not seen." (Hebrews11:1) Faith is not touchable, nor can it be heard. Not only that, but faith must be exercised in someone I can not taste, touch, smell, hear, or see! So, here's the problem. When I look at my faith, I see a wobbly, shaky "tableland." The problem lies in these words, " my faith." My perspective is at fault! True "tableland" faith can only be solid in Jesus Christ. He is steady and sturdy! Jesus is also the judge of how "good" my faith really is, not me - or someone else. He said in Matthew 17:20, "If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed...nothing will be impossible for you."(ESV) A grain of mustard seed is very small, not much to look at, and certainly not steady or solid! That is Christ's measurement of a "great" faith! My only part in the matter of faith is making sure who my faith is in. If my faith is in myself, I'm destined to fall apart! If my faith is in my faith, shaking and wobbling is bound to happen! When my faith is settled in Jesus Christ - not me - then it is solid! As the hymn writer wrote, "My faith has found a resting place...I trust the Ever-living One!" Jesus Christ has all we need, and is all we need to be, and will provide all we will ever need. Faith in Christ never falls apart, nor does it shake or wobble, because He is steady, sturdy, and solid! - Katherine

  • Celebrate Christmas!

Did you know that Christmas is a triumph? Not that there isn't the stress of shopping, gifting, cooking, eating, celebrating - all the traditions that go along with the season. It's just that I was given a fresh realization of how triumphant Christmas is, and how celebrating is actually an act of worship! We celebrate the coming of Jesus at Christmas time. Sometimes, as Christians, we major on the crucifixion - yet the truth is that if Jesus hadn't been born, He could not have shed His blood on the cross for us. He CAME, God in the flesh making His home with people. The Bible says in I John 3:8 that Jesus came to "destroy the works of the devil." His birth already destroyed the devil's works. It was a triumph, a masterpiece plan by our Father to show us Himself in a way we could understand, and also to bring us into a real, living relationship with Him, as His children. I never want Christmas to become more about traditions than about Jesus. He's THE reason! Because Jesus is the focus, I think merriment, celebration, and fun ought to invade our Christmas worship. God is revealed in Scripture as a happy God - the Bible tells us that He joys, He sings, He is happy (blessed), He celebrates, especially when another of His lost sheep is found. If our Almighty Father does these things, then I think He wants us to as well. Christmas should be full of joy, singing, merriment, victory, and celebration - and our Father rejoices with us! When we gather at church - we should be rejoicing and singing. When we gather with family and friends, every moment of happy celebration can be an offering of worship for the One who matters most. Christ's presence will pervade the sharing of presents, and His friendship is felt as we feast. Our family is His family, and every open door can be Christ's open arms. Celebrate with me, then, this Christmas! Let's offer to our God the worship of merriment and joy. "Merry be your Christmas, happy be your home!" Our Father is eternally happy! ~Katherine

  • Worried? Worship.

2024. It's hard to believe we are already almost through the first month of a new year. Changes seem to be happening at a faster rate than they used to - although that may simply be a figment of my imagination, or growing older and being more aware of the need for time. Suffering also seems to be increasing, and I am not the only one who has commented on that recently. Uncertainty is now a fixture in the human emotional make-up. The last few years have added that to our constant struggle. One thing 2020 taught us is that while we knew in our minds that we did not know what the future held, we didn't really believe it. Now we do. Worry is like a cloud always on the horizon, somewhere off out of the corner of our eyes - and often, without warning, we are enveloped with it, and it becomes the fog of fear. Uncertainty is like evaporation, vaporizing confidence which then creates the cloud of worry. I find myself enveloped in worry without being initially conscious of it. Somehow, once I recognize that worry, the fog of fear thickens. If allowed to remain, that fear will cause confusion (what direction am I going?), questioning (why is God allowing this?), despair (God isn't listening, or answering anymore!), and a multitude more. So what to do? I have found in my recent reading through the Word of God that worship is one of the keys, if not THE key, to victory in all these our struggles! In the book of Judges, every time God came through and defeated the enemies of God's people, it was when they worshipped Him. When God answers prayer in the book of Acts, it is when God's people worshipped Him. All throughout Scripture, answers to prayer, deliverance from enemies, provision of need, healing of all kinds happened when our Father was worshipped. When I am worried, I need to worship. When I begin to ask God "why" and whine about my challenges, I need to deliberately stop and worship Him. How do we worship? That is the learning process I am working through. I know that the Bible tells me that singing is worship, prayer is worship, tears are worship...but I am asking Jesus to show me more how to really and truly worship Him..."in spirit and in truth." ( John 4:23) Join me in the lesson of replacing worrying with worshipping! ~ Katherine

  • Worship? Tears.

Where has the time flown? We are already half-way through March of 2024, and have likely already faced the fact that some of the uncertainties we worried about didn’t come to pass – and some of them did. I am aware I bravely (?) began a journey of experiencing what makes up worship, and discussed the challenge to worship instead of worry. I didn’t expect to face the level of uncertainties that I have since that blog, nor did I expect to feel the gut-level fear that I have...and yes, I reminded myself that I needed to worship – but found that easier said than done! I do know now, at a real level, that tears can be worship. Not always, though. Tears can simply be whining, even when expressed in the place of prayer. This truth gets personal for me! As I have faced my own uncertainties and my own fear, my tears that began as worship and were being expressed in my place of prayer became whining. My longing to see my Father do miracles, solve problems unmistakably by His hand, and glorify Himself in my trials had morphed into languishing. Communing was becoming complaining, and faith was merely frustration. Jesus knew I needed some chastening! One morning early last week, I was having my “quiet time” with Jesus. I am working my way through the book of Jeremiah, and had already asked God to speak to me that day in regards to my desperate need for wisdom (He’s promised to liberally supply, right?) in the crises we were facing – spiritual, emotional, physical, financial – and He did. . . but not what I was expecting to hear. These are the words I read: “(Jeremiah said) O Lord. . .Your words were found and I did eat them; and Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart. . .Why is my pain perpetual and my wound incurable, refusing to be healed? Will you indeed be to me like a deceitful brook, like waters that fail and are uncertain? Therefore, thus says the Lord (to Jeremiah): If you return and give up this mistaken tone of distrust and despair, then I will give you again a settled place of quiet and safety . . . and if you cleanse your own heart from unworthy and unwarranted suspicions concerning God’s faithfulness, you shall be My mouthpiece.” (Jeremiah 15:15-19 Amplified version) Ouch. Wait. . . My Father was pointing out that I was calling Him “a deceitful brook”, and my tone towards Him was “distrust and despair”, and I was now becoming suspicious of His faithfulness? Double ouch. Now I was offering the sacrifice of tears, sitting cross-legged on the floor with a river streaming down my face onto my robe. These tears, however, were worship. These tears were relationship and restoration. These tears were repentance. These tears, mingled with my prayer, were of the Revelation, where it says, “And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand...” (Revelation 8:4 KJV) Interestingly, I now see God working in our circumstances in His own unmistakable way. I wonder, though, if God wasn’t working like that all along. I needed worship tears to cleanse my sight so I could see. Now I have a vision – a vision of my family and my church, faces uplifted toward the Father, shining with tears, overwhelmed by the presence of the Holy Spirit. Jeremiah 31:9 (Amplified version) says, “They will come with weeping in penitence and for joy, pouring out prayers...” This is the Revelation worship of chapter 8! Incense ascending up towards my God! Tears are worship – offered in the right attitude and to the right Person, the Lord of glory. Thanks for joining me on this leg of my worship journey, Katherine

  • Worship? Get set...

Ever found yourself in a place of knowing you should worship, but not having the “feelings” of worship? So have I! Thankfully, while worship can be emotional at times, it is not a requirement. God made us emotional beings - some more than others - yet emotions were never intended to be the mark or measure of whether we have truly worshipped, or we have not. All throughout the Bible, the thought of being “set”, whether using that word literally, or the equivalent meaning, plays a definite part in the aspect of worship. Feelings are fickle, but they will follow the determinations we make. More often than we would like, getting “set” is the worship Jesus is looking for. I considered the word “set” for a minute. If I am setting the table, for instance, I pick up the plates and put them in their places and they stay there, as with cutlery, glasses, etc. If I set a course for a marathon, the lines are drawn, the direction is determined, and it doesn’t change part way through the race. When a sail on a boat is set, it is tied off to keep the sail from swinging around or back and forth. The wind can fill it and the boat will go only in that direction. We use the term “their face is set”, meaning that a course of action has been decided upon, and there will be no changing. Will we worship? We’d better get set. Set the will. Making the choice to be a worshipper of Jesus is worship in itself. We’re going to have to set ourselves in this direction – and in this day of no commitment, no rules, no boundaries…just live by how you feel…making that kind of choice is not necessarily popular, but it is necessary. Our primary purpose as people created by God is worshipping, and yet it is so easy to compartmentalize our lives – this is work, this is recreation, this is worship, this is…hence the need to look at true worship. Worship is not meant to be a part of my life – it is my life. I can be a true worshipper of the Father everywhere, all the time, but, I will have to set myself that it will be so. Set the mind. Paul said in Colossians 3:2, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” The word “affection” is literally translated “mind” or “interests”. Our minds are amazing and intricate – and, like sheep, they are prone to wander! In Philippians 4:11, we are told to think on certain things – things that are honest, fair, lovely, true, of good report, courageous and praiseworthy. Why did the Holy Spirit think it necessary to put that in the Bible? Because He knew that we would not naturally think on those things. We would need to set our minds on them. Deliberately taking our minds off that which is critical, negative, depressing, and worrying, and setting them on Jesus and all that He is not only leads us to worship, but it is worship itself. When we set our minds on Christ and all that is good, we are worshipping Him! Set the heart. “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him…” (Psalm 91:14) This is our great God speaking about those who set their heart on Him! Our society portrays love as simply a feeling, which is why relationships fail. Real love is an action word - a choice that results in action - and God not only made love that way, but also showed us that’s what it means to love - “For God so loved the world, that He gave… (John 3:16). So, getting set in worship involves choosing to place our hearts, our love, our affection on God. When we choose to set our love on our Father, then we are worshipping Him by that simple choice. Set the focus. Perspectives are powerful, and people are pointed in a direction by the perspective they allow themselves to have. Priorities matter – everyone has them. When our perspectives are offset, often our priorities get skewed. Setting our focus means allowing Jesus to take our perspectives and priorities and place them back on course. When our focus is on Jesus Christ, our perspectives and priorities stay on track, and we are able to worship freely. When our focus is on circumstances or people, our perspectives shift to earthly things and then our priorities become about how we need to fix a problem or a person. Worship then is challenged because we are distracted from Jesus. Having a set focus on Christ is worship. We may find ourselves in need of bringing our focus back to Him over and over again, but every time we do, we are worshipping the One Who matters! Needing to worship? “Get set” with me… Katherine

  • Dining Chairs - what one is the best? Part 2.

Hello all! Last week we jumped into this topic giving our attention to price points of different chairs in our showroom; this week is focused on another aspect to consider when choosing your new dining chairs - style. Yep, you read it right! This post is all about dining chair styles and how to pair them with your new dining table or your current dining table to create a lovely set! Not everyone gets a table with their new dining chairs. If you're one of those people, grab a cup of coffee and a cozy blanket and snuggle up to read and think about what would suit your dining table best. If you're looking for a new dining table as well, this post is still for you! Either way, get comfy and ready to be inspired. While I have a lot more options to offer you then what's instore, I'm keeping this series of posts limited to our instore styles. These are the styles you can typically sit in and experience the comfort before purchasing a set. Interested in seeing more styles? Jump over to our lookbook here as soon you're finished with this post. Firstly, think wood type. Rustic lover? Wormy maple is a great wood and kind to the wallet. Bit more of a modern go-to? Give wormy maple, brown maple, and clear maple your consideration. Trying to fit it into your old farmhouse kitchen? Oak might just be the thing! What style is the most popular? Well, there's two chairs, but both feature a similar look. Meet our Mission and Contour Mission. Our Mission is definitely cheaper when it comes to your wallet, but the Contour Mission features a deep seat unlike any other sample chair we have. The Mission is a classic. It's really not huge on any design. Not rustic, not elegant, it's just a classic go-to. It also features a wonderful price point, something we talked about in Part 1 of this blog series. As I said, the Contour Mission offers a deep seat, which is a definite feature of this chair. It's also a bit more elegant then our classic Mission. Many people have enjoyed the comfort this chair lends and it's been a "wow" chair in the showroom! It is a little pricier, but make the decision after you sit in both. What chairs suits your own comfort level best? Wanting to go a bit more modern? Our Modern Shaker, Short Farmhouse Shaker Chair, and Avenue Chair lend more to that feel. The Modern Shaker and Short Farmhouse Shaker Chair offer trend and class, while the Avenue Chair gives sleek lines with a slight bend toward rustic. For the farmhouse feel, opt for our Tall Farmhouse Shaker Chair or Ladderback. Timeless suits you best? Our Mission styles are the way to go! Rustic-lovers, don't be afraid to go with the timeless Mission. Think about going with a rustic table, then add in your chairs to complement your statement table! Take your table into consideration when choosing your chairs. Is your table bulky or delicate? Would rustic, modern, timeless or elegant suit the table best? What overall feel are you trying to achieve? What kind of wood is your table? Do you want the set to be a focal point, the table to be the definite statement piece of the set, or do you want a simple table with the chairs setting the vibe? When it comes down to it, what do you want? Questions? We're here to help. Feel free to comment below! Please keep your comments kind and considerate and feel welcome to pop in a suggestion for a future post! Thanks and until next week, be safe and healthy!

  • Custom Feature: Warm 2-Tone Dining Set🤍

Happy Friday! Today is the day for our first custom feature, a set that turned out beautifully. The set left our storefront today, so it's the most recent custom job we've completed. Sit back and appreciate the lovely colours the customers chose! The table ended up being based off of a photo the customers sent to us, while the chairs were a suggestion from us. The chairs are a combination of high quality and comfort, featuring a deep seat. The colours they chose are Provincial and Natural, creating a warm contrast. It turned out wonderfully, and we were pleased with the results. It was a wonderful choice on the customer's part! The table was round with a trestle style base, not unlike our Harvest Trestle Table. The Contour Mission Chairs feature a deep seat as mentioned above, which you can see in the photo. And last of all, the complete set was done in Wormy Maple. Thanks for reading this post!

  • Picking Styles To Make It a Set🤍

Happy Friday! Are you looking for a dining set, but just can't decide what chairs to put with your favourite table? Or maybe you've found a chair you love, but you haven't found the perfect dining table to go with it. Today's post is all about picking styles to make it a set. A lot of tables can go with a lot of chairs. The Harvest Trestle Table above is a great example of that! Featured in the middle photo with the table is our Avalon Chair, which is actually going out of stock, however that chair looks fine as part of the set...and so would other chairs! So with leaving behind the elegant styles and going for something in between to rustic, matching the table's style, be choosy and pick your favourite chair. Here's a few to think on! This was a custom job that was completed late last year. The customers wanted the front legs of the chairs to match the legs of the table, which naturally tied them in as a set! When looking for chairs to match a table similar to this style, leave the rustic styles behind and go for something a little more elegant, like the customized Alexandria chairs these customers chose. This table is quite basic with really nothing other than colour and wood type to try to coordinate with. The options are quite broad when looking for chairs to match, but what colour should you choose? You can 2-Tone it for a great match or clear coat your favourite chair! Our River Table is a lovely live-edge table with a metal base. If you've fallen in with this table, but simply can't imagine what chair to put with it, let me help! Consider blacks & browns for colours...and for styles? Take a look at the chairs below! Thanks for reading the post! If you have any questions let us know. Leave a comment below and be sure to check back in for a response if you've asked a question!

  • Checking Your List - Furniture Design🤍

It's time for some new furniture and you're excited (or maybe not!) about all the decisions that will come with it, especially if it's customized! What wood, what colour, what style, what size, what price...the list is long. But let us help! What wood? You may have noticed that a lot of our in-store furniture is wormy maple. Wormy maple is easier on the wallet, while keeping good quality, and wormy maple has a design all of it's own! Want a rustic look? Consider using this wood! Maple is a step up, but leaves behind some of the design of wormy maple. Pair with your modern décor and you're good to go! Oak is elegant. You could pair it with simple décor too, but stain an Oak Shaker Bed with one of our Early American stains (ask us which one!) and enjoy the smooth effect. There are other woods as well! Don't hesitate to ask us if you have any questions. What colour? When choosing a colour for a new piece of furniture, consider the rest of your home and what you love. If you enjoy cozy fires and cinnamon candles take a peek into our brown shades! If the rest of your home is light, white + modern (and you love it!), consider a 2-tone. What style? Do you prefer detail or simple? Rustic or farmhouse? Modern? Or are you just looking for the perfect piece, whatever style that may be? If it's a bed, do you want panels or slats? Footboard? If it's a dining table, do you want it to be round? What kind of base suits your style and your needs? What size? When purchasing a bed, table, or a custom piece, size is good to know! For a bed, do you want single, double, queen, or king? How high? Any special requests? For a table, how wide? How long? Do you want it expandable? *photo of 7 ft. expandable table What price? The price you want to pay may decide what kind of wood, whether to go for a 2-tone, what base you'd like for the table, and whether to get a queen or king size bed for you. Is your house a home filled with memories, comfortable evenings, and a relaxed atmosphere? If so, you might like to take a look into our shades of brown when doing your next piece of furniture! Just because it's brown doesn't mean it has to be boring. And just because it's brown doesn't mean there isn't options! Choose Natural on Wormy Maple and get an light-toned piece with character. Pair with a lakeside theme and enjoy the light coloured furniture complementing your style or put it in your homey kitchen filled with dark accents and enjoy the warm contrast. Look in the middle range of our Minwax shades (e.g. Early American, Golden Oak), pairing it with Oak for elegance. Place it in your comfortable living space or pair it with the guest room. *photo of Ash table and Oak Mission Chair (similar or same styles available through us!) • Complementing Your New Furniture to Your Old Furniture!

You've made the decision to get a new piece of furniture and you want it to match your old furniture. You've found colours that are close, but aren't perfect and you're almost ready to call it good enough. But have you thought of complementing your new furniture to your existing pieces? They don't need to be the same! Start looking for a colour that you love and that looks great with your existing pieces without trying to match. Instead of having furniture just one shade too light, contrast, complement, and enjoy! What are you trying to match? If it's new chairs to an old dining table, consider giving the dining chairs a contrast. Choose a colour similar to the dining table for the seat and give the base a colour all of it's own. What's your style? Personal styles vary. What's yours? Come on in and talk with us (store hours here), or feel free to email us anytime! Get your furniture from us.
