Solid Wormy Maple – Beautiful Natural Hardwood Character

The Huron Nightstand is crafted from solid Wormy Maple, a distinctive hardwood known for its beautiful grain patterns, natural colour variations, and unique dark streaks.

Sometimes called Ambrosia Maple, Wormy Maple develops its recognizable markings through natural processes involving ambrosia beetles. These markings create attractive variations in the wood, giving each nightstand its own individual character.

The natural beauty of Wormy Maple makes this bedside table particularly appealing for rustic, farmhouse, traditional, and cottage-inspired bedrooms. Its genuine hardwood construction also offers a lasting alternative to furniture made primarily from particleboard or other manufactured materials.

Handcrafted by Ontario Mennonite furniture makers, the Huron Nightstand reflects a commitment to traditional woodworking, attention to detail, and practical furniture design.

Two Spacious Drawers with Dovetail Joinery and Soft-Close Slides

Thoughtful drawer construction is one of the standout features of the Huron Solid Wormy Maple Nightstand.

The two drawers provide convenient bedside storage for books, reading glasses, charging cables, personal items, and other essentials you prefer to keep organized and within reach.

Dovetailed drawer construction adds strength to the drawer joints and reflects traditional woodworking methods used in quality hardwood furniture.

Soft-close drawer slides allow the drawers to close smoothly and quietly, helping prevent slamming and adding everyday convenience.

The deep drawer design provides useful storage capacity while maintaining the attractive proportions of a traditional wooden bedside table.

Whether you're furnishing a master bedroom, guest room, or cottage bedroom, the Huron Nightstand offers a practical combination of accessible storage and quality construction.

1. What height should a nightstand be compared to the bed?

For convenient everyday use, a bedside table should generally be close to the height of the top of your mattress. The Huron Nightstand measures 28½ inches high, making it a practical option for many taller bed frames and mattresses. Before ordering, measure from the floor to the top of your mattress to ensure the nightstand provides comfortable access to your lamp, phone, and other bedside essentials.

2. What are the benefits of dovetail drawer construction in a solid wood nightstand?

Dovetail joinery is a traditional woodworking technique that creates strong, interlocking connections between drawer components. Unlike basic butt joints, dovetailed corners help drawers withstand the repeated opening and closing associated with everyday use. This construction method is an important feature to consider when comparing handcrafted solid wood nightstands with lower-cost bedroom furniture.

3. Will the natural markings in Wormy Maple affect the strength of my bedside table?

Wormy Maple, also known as Ambrosia Maple, is valued for its distinctive streaks and natural colour variations. These markings are part of the wood's character and do not automatically mean the hardwood is structurally weak. Each piece of solid Wormy Maple furniture has its own grain pattern, so your Huron Nightstand may differ slightly in appearance from the product photographs. Proper wood selection and construction are important to the finished furniture's strength and durability.

4. Can I purchase the Huron Nightstand separately from the matching dressers?

Yes. The Huron Nightstand can be purchased as an individual bedside table, making it suitable for adding storage to an existing bedroom. For a coordinated furniture arrangement, consider pairing it with the Huron 7-Drawer Dresser or Huron Highboy Dresser. Matching wood species and compatible stain selections can help create a consistent appearance throughout your bedroom.

5. How do I protect a solid Wormy Maple nightstand from water rings and everyday wear?

Use coasters beneath drinking glasses and protective pads under lamps or decorative accessories to help preserve your nightstand's finish. Wipe spills promptly with a soft cloth, and avoid leaving standing water on the wooden surface. For regular cleaning, use a slightly damp, non-abrasive cloth and dry the surface afterward. Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which may affect the appearance of natural wood and its finish over time.

6. Is a two-drawer bedside table better than a nightstand with an open shelf?

A two-drawer nightstand is particularly useful when you prefer concealed storage and a tidy bedside appearance. Drawers help organize smaller belongings such as reading glasses, personal accessories, charging cables, and books while keeping them out of sight. An open-shelf nightstand may be preferable for displaying decorative items or keeping larger objects immediately accessible. The best choice depends on your storage needs and how you use your bedroom furniture.
