Generous Bedroom Storage Without Taking Up Extra Floor Space

A well-organized bedroom begins with furniture that makes the most of the space available. The Huron Solid Wormy Maple Highboy Dresser from Cinnamon Cabin Co. combines six practical storage drawers with a tall, attractive design that brings the natural beauty of hardwood into your home.

Standing 49½ inches high and just 36 inches wide, this handcrafted dresser offers an excellent alternative to a traditional wide bedroom dresser. Its vertical design provides convenient clothing storage while leaving more wall and floor space available for other bedroom furniture.

Made in Ontario by skilled Mennonite furniture makers, the Huron Highboy features solid Wormy Maple construction, dovetailed drawers, smooth soft-close slides, and your choice of drawer handles. It's a beautiful combination of traditional woodworking and practical features for everyday living.

Six Drawers, Countless Ways to Stay Organized

The Huron Highboy is designed to make everyday bedroom organization easier.

Its six drawers provide separate storage spaces for folded clothing, socks, undergarments, sleepwear, and personal belongings. Rather than stacking everything into a few oversized drawers, the highboy allows you to organize different types of clothing into convenient compartments.

The tall design is especially useful in bedrooms where wall space is limited or where you want additional storage without introducing another wide piece of furniture.

Each drawer features traditional dovetail joinery, a woodworking technique that creates strong, interlocking drawer corners.

The soft-close drawer slides provide smooth, controlled closing, reducing the noise and impact associated with drawers being pushed shut.

These thoughtful construction details make the Huron Highboy a practical choice for busy family bedrooms, guest rooms, and primary bedrooms alike.

The Natural Character of Solid Wormy Maple

One of the most appealing features of the Huron Highboy is the distinctive appearance of its solid Wormy Maple hardwood.

Sometimes called Ambrosia Maple, Wormy Maple is known for its contrasting streaks, natural colour variations, and unique grain patterns. These characteristics create beautiful visual interest across the drawer fronts and wooden cabinet surfaces.

No two pieces of Wormy Maple furniture look exactly alike, giving each dresser its own natural character.

The wood's warm appearance complements farmhouse, Mission, traditional, rustic, and cottage-style bedrooms, while the highboy's clean lines allow it to blend comfortably with more contemporary interiors.

Your choice of drawer handles provides another opportunity to personalize the finished dresser, whether you prefer understated hardware or a more traditional appearance.

With its relatively narrow 36-inch width, the Huron Highboy is particularly useful for bedrooms where a wider dresser may not fit comfortably.

Designed to Complement the Huron Bedroom Collection

The Huron Highboy is part of a coordinated collection of Ontario-made solid wood bedroom furniture.

For homeowners who prefer a wider dresser with a different storage arrangement, our Huron 7-Drawer Dresser offers a complementary alternative. The two dressers can also be used together in larger bedrooms where additional clothing storage is needed.

The highboy was designed to coordinate beautifully with our Huron Mission Bed, bringing matching hardwood character and traditional styling into the bedroom.

For a more contemporary bedroom arrangement, consider pairing it with the Huron Solid Wood Platform Bed, featuring a clean, flat-panel headboard and streamlined wooden frame.

Complete your bedroom with the Huron Solid Wormy Maple Nightstand, offering convenient bedside storage with matching hardwood appeal.

Together, these Huron furniture pieces make it easy to create a bedroom that feels thoughtfully coordinated without sacrificing practical storage.

1. Is a highboy dresser a good alternative to adding more closet shelving?

A highboy dresser can be an excellent way to increase clothing storage without modifying an existing closet. Its vertical arrangement of drawers makes it useful for organizing folded clothing, accessories, and smaller personal belongings that might otherwise occupy closet shelves. The Huron Highboy is especially practical when you want to preserve hanging space for shirts, dresses, and jackets while keeping everyday essentials conveniently accessible.

2. How much room should I leave in front of a five-drawer dresser?

When planning your bedroom layout, consider more than the dresser's 20½-inch depth. Allow approximately 30–36 inches of open space in front of the dresser where possible, so you can comfortably open drawers and access stored clothing. Also consider nearby bedroom doors, closet openings, and the position of your bed. Measuring your available space before ordering helps prevent furniture from interfering with normal movement around the room.

3. Can I choose different drawer handles to match my bedroom furniture?

Yes. The Huron Highboy Dresser is available with a choice of drawer handles, allowing you to personalize its appearance. Hardware can make a noticeable difference in the finished look of solid wood furniture. Traditional pulls can complement Mission or farmhouse interiors, while simpler hardware can create a more contemporary appearance. Ask Cinnamon Cabin Co. about the available handle styles when selecting your dresser.

4. What is the best way to organize clothing in a tall five-drawer dresser?

A useful approach is to organize drawers according to how frequently you need their contents. Keep regularly used clothing in the most convenient drawers, and reserve the upper or lower drawers for lighter accessories, seasonal items, or belongings used less often. Drawer dividers can help separate smaller items and make the available storage space easier to manage. Avoid overloading individual drawers, and always follow appropriate furniture anchoring recommendations.

5. Can the Huron Highboy Dresser be placed beside a bedroom window?

Yes, provided the location allows comfortable access to the drawers and does not block a required exit or interfere with window operation. Avoid positioning solid wood furniture where it will receive prolonged direct sunlight or exposure to condensation and moisture. Sunlight can gradually affect wood finishes, while excessive humidity changes can cause natural hardwood to expand or contract. Maintaining a reasonably consistent indoor environment helps protect your dresser over time.

6. Is the Huron Highboy suitable for a guest bedroom or a smaller secondary bedroom?

The Huron Highboy can be a practical option for guest rooms and secondary bedrooms because its taller design concentrates storage into a relatively narrow footprint. At 36 inches wide, it may fit along walls where a longer horizontal dresser would be difficult to accommodate. Its six drawers also allow guests or family members to organize their belongings without requiring a large additional storage cabinet. Measure the room carefully and ensure the dresser can be properly secured against tipping.
